What is a Manager - Risk Management?

The Manager of Risk Management will oversee Central Hudson’s enterprise risk management programs and serve as the Company’s internal and external lead on associated initiatives. This position will collaborate closely with Central Hudson’s management team, Fortis Inc., peer companies and third parties to identify and apply best practices in enterprise risk management for the benefit of customers and other key stakeholders. The Manager of Risk Management will manage a department of professionals with diverse backgrounds and the collective capabilities to develop, implement and administer current and future programs.

What does a Manager - Risk Management do?

Duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Primary duties

  • Effectively manages an enterprise risk management program that identifies, quantifies, and analyzes corporate risk and mitigates such risk through the administration of insurance programs and other risk management practices

  • Works with Fortis Inc., Fortis peers and external sources, to identify and implement best practices that are suitable for a T&D utility company of Central Hudson’s profile

  • Provides direct support to the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, Accounting, and other areas of the Company to implement and maintain programs and meet reporting and compliance requirements

  • Oversees the implementation of the decisions of the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and ensures adherence to its determinations, policies, and procedures 

  • Coordinates the completion of a biennial corporate risk assessment that informs the Company’s strategic planning process and Risk Management Committee priorities

  • Serves as an internal champion for enterprise risk management

Additional duties

  • Stays current with technology, policy developments and industry practices and contributes to the Company’s planning processes

  • Prepares, maintains, and submits written information on programs and practices in order to ensure internal stakeholders are kept up to date with new developments and their application at Central Hudson

  • Participates as a subject matter expert on relevant joint utility and regulatory working groups

  • Works with Central Hudson’s primary contacts at industry trade groups to coordinate participation in research, best practices, and process improvement programs

  • Develops and utilizes a peer group network in order to advance enterprise risk management across other areas of the Company

  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Manager - Risk Management?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or a related field of study and 5 years of related work experience  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new computer software programs

  • General familiarity of industry trends, operating practices, and energy policies

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to multitask, juggle priorities, navigate complex situations, and use good judgment

  • Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and promote a strong work ethic and positive customer service approach

  • Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours as business needs require

  • Must be able to travel as required (e.g. Albany, New York City, Washington DC, etc.)

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Direct experience with enterprise risk management

  • Significant experience in the regulated Electric and/or Gas Utility industry
