Payroll Manager

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and streamline payroll operations across multiple countries in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll processing, statutory compliance, taxation, risk management, and vendor partnerships. They will ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in payroll management, while also driving process improvements and automation.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Processing
- Manage payroll processing across multiple APAC countries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local labor laws.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Compensation & Benefits, and external vendors to ensure accurate payroll execution.
- Oversee payroll transactions, including salary processing, tax deductions, statutory payments, benefits administration, and full & final settlements.
- Implement and oversee payroll systems and software upgrades for seamless operations.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Stay updated with the latest payroll-related regulations across APAC, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements.
- Handle tax filings, social security contributions, labor laws, and other regulatory submissions in multiple APAC jurisdictions.
- Conduct periodic payroll audits to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring accurate documentation and data security.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with third-party payroll vendors and service providers, ensuring high service quality and compliance.
- Serve as the point of contact for employee payroll-related queries and senior management reporting.
- Conduct periodic reviews of vendor contracts and negotiate agreements for optimal cost-effectiveness.
Process Optimization & Reporting
- Identify areas for payroll process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency.
- Develop payroll governance policies and ensure adherence across all regions.
- Generate payroll reports, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial forecasting, for senior leadership.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor payroll teams across multiple geographies, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work culture.
- Train teams on best practices, compliance updates, and payroll system enhancements.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 10-15 years of experience in payroll management, with at least 5 years handling APAC payroll.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in global payroll systems such as Workday, SAP, ADP, Ceridian, and Oracle.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis) for payroll reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of taxation laws, compliance regulations, and labor laws in APAC.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Payroll compliance certifications such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or equivalent.
- Industry Experience: Prior experience in financial services, IT, or multinational corporations handling large-scale payroll operations.
- Process Improvement: Experience in process automation, payroll migration, and system integration projects.
