As a Manager, Optics and Methods, you will be trusted to work on designs, models, analyzes, and tests optical, electro-optical, and opto-mechanical systems and components, including sensors, lasers, fiber-optics, and telecommunications products. This position is inf Fort Worth, Texas and a typical day will include:
- Plan, conduct and direct one or more research or development projects of major significance, which are highly difficult and complex in nature, necessitating the expert application of advanced knowledge in the field of ophthalmic medical device/science/technology. Originates and applies new and unique methods, procedures, and designs.
- Supplies technical advice and counsel to other professionals and may represent the organization in outside discussions and technical forums. Works with wide latitude for unreviewed action or decision. May direct the activities of senior technical professionals to accomplish objectives.
- Manages an optical metrology laboratory that provides measurement of image quality and other characteristics of novel ophthalmic devices. Responsible for documentation of equipment and data, including procedures and reports, keeping operations in compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
- Supervises multiple professionals in lab tasks, schedules tasks, and reviews data. Works closely with validation and quality personnel.
- Plans, conducts, and provides technical direction to one or more projects of major importance and difficulty where the complexity of technical problems involved requires the broad application of advanced knowledge of ophthalmic devices.
- Supplies technical advice and counsel to other professionals.
- Be responsible for planning, conducting, and executing intraocular lens-related research and development.
What You’ll Bring to Alcon:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+1 yr)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- 3 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with optical design, optical engineering and optical software like Zemax or Code V preferred.
- Candidates with an advanced degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Vision Science or a related engineering field will be given preference.
- Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of medical device/science/technology.
- Encounters problems that are varied but similar.
- Requires some fact-finding to define problem.
- Selects the best option from a set of defined procedures or based on precedence
