The Mgr, Environmental Affairs manages facility environmental programs to ensure compliance with Performance Fibers current and emerging regulatory and company requirements.  Supports facility operational and strategic flexibility through regulatory coordination and permitting.  Evaluates environmental engineering operational practices and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for performance and cost improvement.  Manages and directs the activities of environmental staff.  Manages facility involvement with the public, industry, and authorities from an environmental perspective.  Manages facility response to corporate environmental initiatives and direction.  Manages the facility strategic environmental capital budget process.

How You’ll shape the Future of the Environmental Group:

  • Keeps management informed of the mill's compliance status with regard to current and emerging requirements. Evaluates the existing systems and practices affecting environmental costs and compliance and recommends appropriate actions.
  • Develops and manages a five-year environmental operations plan to insure business sustainment. Prepares and manages a five-year environmental strategic capital budget and related permit development process to define and support business development and provide operational flexibility.
  • Manages facility environmental involvement with public, industry, and regulatory authorities to ensure good working relationships are maintained.
  • Represents the facility through participation in various industry associations, governmental, and public committees, working groups, and boards.
  • Manages facility response to corporate environmental oversight activities and initiatives.
  • Manages the operation of the mill’s secondary wastewater treatment system

You’ll Be Someone Who Can Bring:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering required.  Pulp and Paper degree is preferred.
  • Minimum ten years experience in pulp and paper manufacturing operations as an Environmental Manager.  Required years of experience in managing environmental improvement and regulatory compliance in pulp and paper mills including the following:
    • leading and developing corporate environmental compliance policies
    • negotiating with regulatory agencies
    • dealing with the public in regard to environmental issues
    • managing a wastewater treatment plant
    • developing environmental management systems
    • managing contaminated sites and landfills, and managing departmental operation budgets
  • Must be proficient in execution of strategic business acumen including demonstrating the ability to complete tasks and projects in business unit; effectively communicating key business considerations; able to cite examples of types of information needed to make sound business decisions and catering to key stakeholders and their priorities.
  • Must have advanced abilities to plan, implement and manage change in a variety of significant settings.   Must be able to successfully grow talent through coaching individuals or teams on specific competencies or subjects; assess departmental talent and develop appropriate improvement activities, recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Cultivates and maintains extensive informal networks.  Anticipates and effectively resolves conflicts between individuals and groups of people.
