About the role

We are looking for an experienced engineering manager–someone who has a proven track record of developing and nurturing high performing teams, while maintaining hands-on technical abilities and skill in navigating and contributing to the engineering roadmap. 

This team owns, manages and maintains our Chronosphere Telemetry Pipeline product. This product enables our customers to emit, augment, filter, route, and transform the flood of observability and SIEM data generated by their ever expanding applications and systems, allowing them to to sanely organize and easily access that data.

You Will

  • Partner with product and design to build and vet strategy for the product, and collaborate in shaping the roadmap for the team

  • Drive alignment and help the team navigate trade offs with clear prioritization outcomes

  • Establish a clear delivery sequence aligned with the roadmap, and drive day-to-day ceremonies ensuring focus on priorities

  • Eliminate barriers to execution, drive operational efficiency and high velocity for the team

  • Collaborate and partner with sister teams to deliver on shared initiatives for the company

  • Balance work across our individual contributors and help them do their best work by creating a healthy team environment

  • Support and grow a team of engineers through all stages of their career 

  • Own the reliability of our software in production. Be accountable for the uptime of our systems, and ensure that your team has the focus, tools, and processes needed to meet our reliability standards

  • Collaborate with other engineering and product leaders on wider organizational initiatives

What you will achieve

In the first 3 months, you will build a deep understanding of Chronosphere’s Telemetry Pipelines product and will have time to learn about the domain, our customer’s needs, the underlying technology and how we deliver changes. You will establish relationships with our key stakeholders. You will manage your direct reports, owning the planning and day-to-day execution for the team with the support of your manager as need be.

After 3 months, you will independently manage all day to day activities of the team in close partnership with key stakeholders and your manager. You will contribute to driving process changes to ensure our organization scales effectively.

You have

  • 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager of a highly performing, technical, product engineering team.

  • Experience in effectively partnering with product and design to create roadmaps that provide clear direction for the team.

  • Demonstrated the ability to drive alignment and focus on the team aligned to strategic direction and goals.

  • Demonstrated the ability to establish or change processes to empower the team to achieve their goals.

  • A proven track record of predictable and iterative delivery cadence on the team.

  • Experience in coaching and developing software engineers of varied backgrounds and levels.

  • Empathy and an understanding of how to support engineers to do their best work. 

  • A high level of organization and the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives from start to finish.

  • Familiarity with enterprise software and software as a service. We deliver a highly reliable service to demanding business customers, and you should understand how this impacts the way product is built, validated, released, and operated.

  • Experience in recruiting, making hiring decisions, closing hires, and building a diverse and inclusive team. We believe strongly that hiring is the responsibility of engineering management, and you should be able to demonstrate attracting, closing, and retaining engineers at multiple levels as need arises.
