OVERVIEW:

The Product Manager (SL) drives and manages the strategic plan for a single product/brand from conception to commercialization. In this role the Product Manager leads the development of trend right product, from idea to final delivery, that meets or exceeds the expectations of our athletes.  Through collaboration with cross-functional partners in Merchandising, Design, Strategic Sourcing teams and with guidance and alignment from the Director of Product Management (HL) it is the responsibility of the PM to drive the line planning process for their product/brand. 

The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about consumer behavior, has a taste level that can identify trends in their specific product line/category. Communication and cross-functional collaboration is a critical skill needed for success in this role. This candidate will need to balance strategic thinking with the ability to effectively execute.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Manages Brand/Product Vision & Execute Strategy  

  • Manage and communicate the vision for the product or brand in their span control, business decisions should be rooted in analysis, trend awareness and consumer insights.
  • Identify and research new product that will enable the organization to achieve its short and long-term strategic, market share and revenue goals.  Integrate findings into seasonal strategies and quantify the size of the opportunity.
  • Demonstrate a high level of analytical thinking and attention to detail with strong aptitude in business acumen, margin management and forecasting methodology; translate business analysis to execute the strategic vision for your product/brand.

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Manages the line planning process for product/category.  Approve seasonal collection to ensure that product matches key themes and messages, big ideas by shop and flow.
  • Hold direct reports accountable for managing the Time and Action calendar.  Ensure status updates are provided regularly.  Anticipates issues and proactively leads team to solutions.
  • Drive accountability across teams to deliver to the financial targets throughout the product lifecycle.  Provide direction on initial costing requirements to meet or exceed margin targets. Ensure weekly analysis of business results define the root cause of success or risk. Hold direct/indirect reports accountable to provide meaningful insights that can drive action plans.
  • Responsible for delivering key financial results ( Sales / Margin / Turn ) and other operational metrics with key internal business partners.
  • Responsible for recapping and finalizing program and style placements.

Exhibit Trend Awareness

  • Act as a subject matter expert for market trends for span of control, including shifts in consumer behavior, style elements (fabric, print, pattern, color), cultural/lifestyle awareness and the competitive landscape.   
  • Leverage concept team to assess and analyze trend reports to assist in researching white space opportunities that align to the seasonal direction for the brand
  • Manage consumer research initiatives, including market trips, tradeshow attendance and competitive shopping.  Seek inspiration from aspirational brands, then turn insights into actionable product translations that are right for areas of

Manage & Develop Talent:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to teammates on projects and deliverables, holding teammate accountable to deadlines.  This includes organizing and monitoring workload to ensure priority deliverables are fast tracked.
  • Provide direct reports with timely and regular feedback to support teammate development/ growth in role.
  • Train and mentor new hires into roles by sharing experience, knowledge and best practices.
  • Drive talent selection process for open direct report positions; Ensure all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 - 7 years of related experience
  • Ability to lead a team & detailed organizational process cross functionally
  • Adept at analyzing industry trends and targeting new concepts/styles to the Dick’s customer
