Position Summary
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all logistics operations across multiple manufacturing locations within a specific segment. This includes the management of coordinating the movement of raw materials, finished goods, and other supplies to ensure efficient production and timely delivery. The role requires optimizing processes, reducing costs, and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, and logistics partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Supply Chain Management
- Coordinate the logistics activities across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring materials and goods move efficiently to support production and distribution timelines.
- Transportation Coordination
- Manage and monitor transportation services for inbound and outbound shipments, including vendor negotiations, carrier selection, and route optimization.
- Process Improvement
- Implement and oversee continuous improvement initiatives to streamline logistics operations, reduce costs, and increase efficiency across locations.
- Vendor and Supplier Relations
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with logistics service providers, freight carriers, and suppliers, ensuring service quality and contract compliance.
- Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of logistics and supply chain professionals, providing guidance and performance feedback to drive operational success across multiple sites.
- Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all logistics operations comply with relevant regulations, safety standards, and company policies. Identify and mitigate risks related to transportation, warehousing, and supply chain disruptions.
- Cost Management
- Develop and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost control through vendor negotiations, operational efficiencies, and process improvements.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, sales, and customer service teams to ensure alignment between logistics operations and business objectives.
- Technology Utilization
- Leverage logistics and supply chain management software to improve visibility and reporting on transportation, warehousing, and inventory management.
Experience & Skills
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or distribution management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience managing logistics across multiple locations.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.
- Skills
- Knowledge of transportation and warehousing best practices, including vendor management and compliance with safety regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to optimize processes for cost efficiency and operational performance.
- Proficient in logistics software systems and tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred Attributes
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with and implementing TMS or ERP technology.
Working Conditions
- This role will require regular (25%) travel between manufacturing sites.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including time spent on the production floor.
