Ubisoft Bordeaux
Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a free to play game, BattleCore Arena. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) as well as on the Anvil game engine. Ubisoft Bordeaux is also home to a R&D team, La Forge, which brings together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes for game production, particularly around AI topics.
Job Description
As a Level Design Director on a project not announced yet, you will ensure our players have fun levels and puzzles to solve, and goals to accomplish as they journey through our new project.
You will ensure that all Levels and related experiences are delivered on time, and to the highest possible quality through your feedback and direction. You will share the level design vision for the project with various teams and stakeholders and oversee the entire level design process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and develop the Level Design vision and oversee that this vision is carried through into the game, with the player and their experience at the center
- Work closely with the Game Director to define key gameplay ingredients and systems that will support Level Design
- Work closely with the Technical Level design Director and the Level Design Lead
- Consider, evangelize and oversee rules and metrics for gameplay spaces (rational level design)
- Ensure all the gameplay spaces work flawlessly
- Balance artistic aspects with technical constraints to align design, graphic, and narrative features
- Ensure that level design guidelines are followed by working in close collaboration with all members of the production team
- Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to your level design team to achieve the highest quality
- Work with feedback from playtesters or internal cross-functional teams (usability, accessibility, compliance, etc.) in order to take a problem-solving approach to tackle any issues they might have uncovered
- Contribute to work planning in order to find the balance between the quality that is expected and the ability to deliver the game
Qualifications
As a Director in the Level Design field, you’re enthusiastic about quality and innovation. You excel at communicating your vision to various stakeholders and developing strategic efforts with your team. You appreciate working in collaborative environments, supporting different professionals. Your team leadership experience equips you to navigate through challenges, provide constructive feedback, and streamline workflows.
- Experience in at least one full AAA videogame production as an Associate Director or Director, ideally for an Open World game.
- Professional experience in supervising/directing a level design team
- Capacity to clearly articulate and communicate a vision and strategy
- Expertise in Level Design principles
