About the Role
As Legal Counsel at payabl., you will play a key role in supporting the legal and regulatory needs of our fast-growing fintech operations across multiple jurisdictions. Based in Vilnius, Lithuania, you will work closely with the Lead Legal Counsel and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the business to ensure that all group entities operate within a sound legal framework.
Your role will be central to managing legal risk, supporting strategic initiatives, and providing practical legal guidance across a wide range of business areas—from regulatory compliance and commercial contracts to governance and corporate affairs. Your understanding of EU legal frameworks and ability to navigate complex, fast-paced environments will make you a vital partner in our continued global expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on a broad range of legal matters impacting the group, including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, data privacy, corporate governance, and employment law.
- Work cross-functionally with compliance, operations, finance, and product teams to provide legal support across all group entities and jurisdictions.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, PSPs, partners, and vendors, ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite and commercial strategy.
- Support the legal aspects of corporate structuring, intercompany agreements, and internal governance processes across international operations.
- Contribute to the company’s approach to data protection and privacy, including advising on compliance with GDPR and other relevant frameworks.
- Assist with dispute resolution, legal proceedings, and regulatory inquiries affecting any of the company’s licensed entities.
- Collaborate with external legal advisors on specialized or jurisdiction-specific matters where necessary.
- Help foster a proactive legal culture by identifying potential legal risks early and providing strategic, solution-focused legal advice.
Who you are:
You are a commercially minded legal professional with strong communication skills and a solid understanding of the fintech and payments space. You’re comfortable operating across multiple jurisdictions and thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
- Experienced in Fintech & Financial Regulation – You have previous experience advising on legal and regulatory matters in fintech, payments, or broader financial services.
- Legally Qualified – You hold a Master’s degree in Law and are qualified to practice in Lithuania or another EU jurisdiction. Experience working with cross-border legal matters is a strong plus.
- Fluent in English – You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
- EU Legal Frameworks Expert – You understand key regulatory requirements such as PSD2, AML/CFT, GDPR, and other relevant EU financial services legislation.
- Strategic & Collaborative – You take a proactive, business-enabling approach to legal advice and work effectively across departments and jurisdictions.
- Detail-Oriented & Organized – You manage multiple matters with precision, prioritizing tasks effectively while maintaining a hands-on, solutions-driven mindset.
