StubHub is looking for a Lead Staff Software Engineer - Backend to lead, design and develop the next-generation technologies and complex features that change how millions of users explore, interact with and participate in live events worldwide. As a Lead Staff Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of developing the team's commercial and product strategy and will be expected to be equally focused on user needs and to exercise good commercial (not just technical) judgement. Our Lead Staff Software Engineers are essential for our company’s success, so they must show initiative and enthusiasm for the problems they solve.

This role will be based out of our New York, NY office and has a hybrid work schedule. (3 in-person days per week)
About the team:
StubHub Engineering Tax team is tasked with developing a robust, in-house tax collection and remittance system tailored for a global, cross-border company operating across 40+ currencies and numerous compliance regions. This initiative addresses the intricate challenges of tax calculation and compliance that cannot be managed by existing third-party solutions
What You'll Do
- Lead team to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain impactful improvements across all StubHub’s consumer-facing properties, resulting in high-quality outcomes
- Manage the definition, scoping, and execution of initiatives, work prioritization, and impact maximization for your team
- Collaborate with team members to ensure best practices across our code
What You've Done:
- 10+ years of professional experience in software development
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience in a hands-on capacity
- Experience-building data-intensive user-facing applications emphasizing insight discovery and streamlined data analysis.
- Experience in designing and developing solutions that maximize ROI and led to significant business impact
- Proven ability to learn other coding languages, platforms, frameworks, and tools
- Experience owning projects from the initial idea all the way to production
- Experience mentoring junior engineers

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.

$240,000—$350,000 USD
