Job Description
The Lead, R&D Corporate and Science Communications helps the R&D Corporate and Science Communications team elevate Takeda's science and demonstrate the value of our R&D investments. This team plays a critical role communicating about Takeda's growth from science to commercialization to patient outcomes.
As a member of the R&D and Portfolio Communications team, this role helps to build key messages and identify compelling stories that bring to life Takeda's Research strategy and the organization's contributions to building a sustainable pipeline. This involves working closely with the Chief Scientific Officer, Head of Research to create and execute an external engagement plan and manage related media relations.
The position also manages communications related to early stage (Research, Phase 1 - Phase 2) business development and R&D partnerships.
Taken together, this work showcases how Takeda's science, development model, partnerships, and people are advancing an exciting pipeline of transformational medicines to patients.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Works with Chief Scientific Officer/Research Head of Research to develop key messaging for the function and as part of the broader R&D narrative.
- Partners with other members of the R&D Corporate and Science Communications team to identify compelling Research stories, planning and executing activations across earned and owned channels.
- Develops and executes an external engagement plan for the CSO, Head of Research
- Provides media relations support for the Research organization.
- Leads the coordination of early stage (Research, Phase 1 - Phase 2) partner and business development communications.
- Manages a calendar of potential partner announcements and works across R&D functions in the creation, review and approval of partner press releases and other related communications.
- Ensures all communications comply with Takeda operating procedures and relevant industry regulations.
Required skills and experience:
- Bachelors required (minimum)
- 7+ years of communications experience in a PR agency or corporate setting.
- Minimum of 7 years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or health care industry experience required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing external communication strategies for a global complex organization required.
- Demonstrated ability to work across functions, regions and cultures.
- Proven skills as an effective team player who can instill confidence within and outside the company.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication.
- Strategic thinker. Ability to drive effective meetings and drive consensus.
- Scientific storyteller. Ability to develop communications that convey complex ideas and scientific concepts in simple, concise and creative ways to engage employees and external audiences across channels (written, social media, and multimedia content)
- Strong presentation skills to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
- Strong writing and message development skills with an ability to write and adapt to various styles, formats and cultures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under pressure with proficient attention to detail.
- Ability to balance short- and long-term priorities.
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones.
- Experience working at an agency or consultancy, or with vendors such as public relations agencies, design firms and production companies.

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$153,600.00 - $241,340.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
