This will be a hybrid role with time split between home working and regular office days.
The Role:
The Lead Quality Engineer will be responsible for achieving results through team members, providing guidance and mentorship as appropriate. You will strive to continually enhance Preservica’s quality output while representing the team in key meetings, monitoring performance, maintaining the automation framework, and ensuring adherence to our standards.
You will work within an agile team and will be responsible for evaluating and writing tests for changes within the Preservica software suite. You will review existing test cases for automation, maintain internal jobs within Preservica’s CI tool, and manage some members of the Quality team. Additionally, you will play a key role in the ongoing maturity of Preservica’s Quality Assurance function by championing quality while contributing to and leading initiatives.
Other tasks will include:
- Maintain the automation framework
- Act as the automation SME and mentor for other staff members
- Define and champion the standards associated with Preservica’s Quality function
- Write well designed, maintainable, feature files and step definitions following established coding practices
- Review stories, attend refinements and other ceremonies to get any clarifications and provide timely and meaningful feedback as appropriate
- Execute and maintain automation scripts, keep suites running and passing investigate all failures and take remedial action
- Extend the automation capability to increase product coverage and extend regression test suites
- Execute manual test cases where necessary
- Review test cases and feature files produced by others, as well as code reviews for pull request
- Stay up to date with trends in methodologies and techniques as appropriate to job focus
- Share knowledge with QA and engineering teams and mentor junior members of the team
- Lead and contribute to department initiatives with an aim of continuous improvement throughout the team
Knowledge & Experience:
- Degree in an engineering, software, or system-related field, or equivalent training/experience.
- Be familiar with Agile development practices including Agile testing
- 5+ years' testing experience, design, and execution, skilled in automation
- Able to work to tight deadlines, get involved in Scrum meetings, work closely with other QA engineers and Software Engineers, Product Owners, Agile Delivery Managers and Release Manager
- Be personable and with effective communication skills; be pro-active, assertive, and confident to contribute to team meetings as well as present if required. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Be able to communicate with senior level stakeholders and be involved, not just with the requirements presented, but also by guiding discussions and solutions.
- Experience with coaching and mentoring of others, previous line management desirable
- Experience of running and maintaining frameworks with the latest tools such as Playwright or Cypress
