Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
This is a remote position. To help our teams work together effectively, this role requires you to be located in North America.
Your future team
We are looking for a Lead Product Designer to help Confluence raise the visual and interaction design quality bar across our web, desktop, and mobile app experiences. Reporting to one of our two Design Managers who oversee Confluence Horizontals, you will oversee the strategic remit and application of our local design system for Confluence, including the development of components, patterns and local design system strategy, which will help us to deliver platform-capable experiences for Confluence at enterprise scale.
As a high-level individual contributor, you will partner with other designers and multiple design teams across the company to help raise our quality bar and ensure effective cross-team alignment, adoption, and co-contribution. Leading this space means you will directly contribute to transforming Atlassian into a world-class design organization, known for its stunning design language and beloved customer experience.
In addition to leading visual and interaction design improvements and establishing a library of Confluence-specific patterns and components, you'll be responsible for leading design on critical Confluence features and experiences within the Horizontals team-i.e., platform experiences that span across all Atlassian products with a focus on differentiated design needs for Confluence (e.g., navigation, notifications, real-time collaboration, content wrapper, contextual create, personal notes, home).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design process from concept to execution, ensuring high-quality deliverables that align with business goals and user needs.
- Develop and maintain design systems that promote consistency and efficiency across products.
- Create visually stunning and intuitive interfaces, incorporating motion and interaction design principles to enhance user engagement.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to achieve alignment on design objectives and project timelines.
- Present design concepts and solutions to senior leadership, articulating the rationale behind design decisions and how they contribute to overall product strategy.
- Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback and iterate on designs, ensuring that user needs are at the forefront of the design process.
- Mentor and guide junior designers, fostering a culture of creativity and collaboration within the design team.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of product design experience designing complex or enterprise-level software.
- Proven experience as a Lead Product Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your design work.
- Exceptional visual design skills, with a keen eye for aesthetics and detail.
- Strong motion and interaction design skills, with the ability to create engaging and dynamic user experiences.
- Experience working on design systems and mobile applications, with a deep understanding of responsive design principles.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- A user-centered mindset, with experience in conducting user research and usability testing.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
