The FP&A group plays an instrumental role in the analysis and reporting of Duke Energy's financial information. This team is integrally involved in strategic and general financial analysis including supporting the five-year financial plan and strategic growth initiatives. The senior financial analyst's primary responsibility is reporting of financial information in various forms including monthly executive packages and periodic board of director presentations. In addition, the analyst is tasked with working with business partners to review financial results monthly, capture variance explanations, and support the forecast and budget planning processes. The ability to work within a team, take initiative, and interact effectively with business partners and all levels of management is critical.
This is the fifth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of business need. Employees at this level solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. Incumbents provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization, and may coordinate daily work activities or review the work of other teammates. Employee may also regularly lead projects. Employee works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbent has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise.
The Lead Financial Analyst is required to perform all of the duties of the senior in addition to the following: Leads business and peer teams to drive results. Directs workplan and effective project completion within the department. Leads change initiatives among peers. When manager not available, the lead can step into supervisory role. Leverages industry knowledge to provide business context for decisions. Identifies initiatives to improve business outcomes. Communicates and integrates segment knowledge, enterprise drivers, and regulatory influences. Works independently and provides strong context for decision making.

Demonstrate leadership as a consultant or subject matter expert for technical/functional/strategic issues, provide guidance and assistance for questions and problems related to financial business management.

Build financial acumen across customer group supported.
Achieve financial results

Achieve financial performance targets by providing financial, accounting, and business management analytical insight to executives and senior leaders. Includes budgeting, reporting and projection activities.
Peer Leadership

Direct workplan and effective project completion among other employees on the team through effective leadership and influence skills.

Ensure peers have appropriate training to perform tasks.
Drive Initiatives
- Lead various special projects/initiatives and financial studies.
Compliance Assurance

Establish proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls.
Accounting review/approval

Review and/or approve accounting journal entries including accruals and corrections.
Required/Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline

Six (6) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)

Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
Desired Qualifications

CPA or working toward CPA

Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting

Eight (8) years or more of professional work related experience

High level of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint

Ability to work comfortably with incomplete information and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions
