The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $111,544- $139,431

Job Summary

The Lead Engineer in the Customer Funded Development Department is responsible for overseeing the portfolio of projects assigned to the unit. This role will create pre-conceptual engineering for load and generator interconnections.  This role ensures that each project adheres to regulatory requirements, company standards. 

The lead engineer will lead teams/projects that solve complex problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. Able to work independently with guidance on only the most complex tasks. Participates and represents Avangrid on industry associations. Follow updates in research and development in the power industry, through training and industry associations.

This position is responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line and substation pre-conceptual designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks.

Your responsibilities will include mentoring junior team members, providing direction on complex projects, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Your leadership will be crucial in driving our team's success and ensuring the professional growth of each engineer under your guidance.

Ensure all specifications meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards (NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, NY PSC, etc.). The Lead Electrical Engineer will report directly to the Unit Manager and work closely with cross-functional project teams to support project needs as directed by the Unit Manager.

Skills/Abilities:

                - Good interpersonal and communications skills

                - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

                - Knowledge of project management.

                Experience/Training:

                - 5-7 years of experience in engineering including electric substation

                experience and line engineering work.

             

               Certifications:

                - Professional Engineering license in applicable state.

                Required Education:  Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or

                Electrical Technology. 

           

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex pre-conceptual engineering design and analysis of the electric transmission and/or distribution lines and substations in support of load and generator interconnections, using standard methodology.
  • Performs engineering reviews, calculations and/or recommending drawings or system improvements, to standards or international codes.
  • Lead collaborative analysis and review of projects, studies, and best practices with Engineering peers.
  • Review of large customer interconnections and distributed energy resource interconnections to substations, transmission circuits and distribution circuits.
  • Assists during storm restoration effort.
  • Provides engineering support during construction and testing and commissioning phases when required.
  • Lead teams, mentor & review engineering work of others.
  • Anticipate and make recommendations with respect to customer and stakeholder needs. Explain difficult concepts & influences others. May be required to make presentations to regulatory/public entities.

               

Required Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in Engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology.
  • Professional Engineer or ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of Interconnection Standards such as IEEE-1547
  • Knowledge of FERC/NERC/NPCC and state regulations such as NERC PRC standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge on Electric substations and transmission and distribution systems planning, operations, and/or protection.
  • Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD and other Engineering tools.
