Description
We are seeking a Lead Database Engineer who excels at mentoring and team collaboration. In this role, you'll inspire and guide a team of database professionals, cultivating a collaborative environment that values innovation and continuous improvement. You will own the sprint process, coordinating seamlessly with cross-functional teams—including developers, operations, and infrastructure—to ensure that our projects run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities
- Responsible for a team of Database engineers that design, implement, and maintain high-availability, high throughput, data and compute intensive, critical database systems running PostgreSQL which supports a growing 24x7 SaaS platform.
- Lead and mentor the team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. You will be challenged with learning new technologies here on a regular basis.
- Participates in and leads project planning and sprint ceremonies to deliver database solutions in an Agile environment. Monitoring the database team’s project activities, blockers, and acting to avoid problems or delays.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Partner with other technical leaders to ensure all newly introduced systems are supportable and maintainable by both development and operations
- Provides escalated technical guidance and support to other technology teams throughout the organization
- Provides on-call coverage for production support and other duties as required.
- Accountable for complying with HIPAA security policies within the database platform
- Ensure all solutions and operational activities adhere to the security and operating policies established by the organization
- Automate system maintenance tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible. Manage infrastructure as code (IaC) writing Ansible playbooks. Some exposure to Terraform a plus.
- Experience with writing & designing ETL pipelines using Python a plus
- Understand and maintain various PostgreSQL ecosystem components like: PgBouncer, PgBackrest, HaProxy, RepMgr a plus
Requirements
- BS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of Engineering experience with Database Engineering, Systems Engineering, DevOps and/or SRE
- 3+ years experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers
- specializing in database systems and SaaS platforms a plus
- Experience in cloud-based compute, storage, and containerization solutions (Azure & Kubernetes preferred)
- Expert with the Agile methodology, DevOps, Scrum, ITSM and/or ITIL principles
- Proficiency with operating PostgreSQL in a Linux environment is a plus
