Description

TherapyNotes is searching for a Lead Database Engineer to join our growing team of cloud-first technology enthusiasts.  The right candidate will have extensive experience with PostgreSQL databases, acute attention to detail and an inquisitive mind to challenge the status quo. They will be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, DevOps culture working across the technology organization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for engineering, designing, implementing, and maintaining critical database systems (PostgreSQL) which support a growing 24x7 SAAS platform
  • Has experience leading an engineering team and is comfortable with systems administration on a primarily Linux environment
  • Strong experience with scripting, automation and Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Python, Bash, and Powershell
  • Provides leadership for all policies and procedures that govern data operations, security, management and usage
  • Participates in and leads project planning and sprint ceremonies to deliver database solutions in an Agile environment
  • Monitor all database project activities, acting to avoid problems or delays to ensure the accuracy and quality of project deliverables
  • Mentors, coaches and guides members of the database team
  • Communicates effectively with team members, other teams and stakeholders
  • Drives and ensures database design and operations proactively support the availability, scalability, and recoverability needs of the business
  • Performs proactive tuning and capacity management to ensure the database meets the performance needs of the business
  • Guides and provides direction to developers and engineers on database development, design principles, query optimization, and index management in a fully automated deployment pipeline
  • Provide support for development and testing including test data setup, automated testing scenarios, and dev/test environment data refreshes
  • Accountable for complying with HIPAA security policies within the database platform
  • Improve site reliability through the implementation of detailed telemetry, based on leading and trailing indicators
  • Partner with other technical leaders to ensure all newly introduced systems are supportable and maintainable by both development and operations
  • Provides escalated technical guidance and support to other technology teams throughout the organization
  • Ensure all solutions and operational activities adhere to the security and operating policies established by the organization
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery or the health of the environment through process improvement and/or continual development of documentation and runbooks
  • Provides on-call coverage for production support and other duties as required

Requirements

  • BS degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience with Database Engineering, Systems Engineering, DevOps and/or SRE
  • 3+ years experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers specializing in database systems and SaaS platforms
  • 3+ years experience administering and engineering highly-available PostgreSQL databases
  • Expert in PostgreSQL database architecture, concepts, features, and high-availability technologies
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with operating PostgreSQL in a Linux environment
  • Experience in cloud-based compute, storage, and containerization solutions (Azure & Docker preferred)
  • Expert with the Agile methodology, DevOps, Scrum, ITSM and/or ITIL principles
