What is this position about? 

As a Data Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in leading the migration of our data infrastructure from BigQuery to Snowflake. Your responsibilities will include optimizing queries, refining database structures, reviewing and enhancing the overall architecture, and identifying potential bottlenecks. Success in this role requires a solid grasp of data engineering principles, a strategic approach to architecture design, and a strong understanding of data governance practices to ensure a smooth and secure transition.

You may work 100% remotely if you are currently living in LATAM or you can always join us at the office in Montevideo, Uruguay! 

Job Description

• Design and implement data architecture solutions for migrating from BigQuery to Snowflake.

• Optimize SQL queries and database structures to improve performance and efficiency.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and security during the migration process.

• Develop and maintain scripts in Python for automation and data processing tasks.

• Implement best practices for data governance, including defining roles, permissions, and schemas in Snowflake.

• Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting to resolve data pipeline issues.

• Document processes, procedures, and configurations related to the migration project.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members on data engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related data-focused role, with a strong focus on database architecture and migration projects.

• Advanced proficiency in SQL, particularly in query optimization.

• Proficiency in Python, with the ability to automate tasks and enhance data workflows.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) and Snowflake (must-have).

• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and automation.

• Strong understanding of data security, data governance, and role-based access control (RBAC) in data environments.

• Knowledge of tools like Dataiku and AWS is a plus.

You will need excellent written and verbal English for clear and effective communication with the team.  

How much experience must I have?  

We're looking for someone with 5+ years' of experience in similar roles.
