Seeking a remarkable Lawyer to join our Workplace Relations, Employment & Safety (WRES) practice in Brisbane

  • Join a top tier, marketing leading WRES Practice
  • Collaborate and contribute to a successful and impactful team
  • Work with a variety of clients, and work on significant, high profile matters

The Role

Propel your legal career by joining Brisbane’s market leading Workplace Relations, Employment, and Safety (WRES) legal practice, working with all three workplace partners Shae McCartney, Christy Miller, and Hilary Searing. This opportunity is a full-time permanent position to meet increased levels of activity and growth. With a change in the practice group structure, the three partners are looking for the right candidate to be part of the future growth of the group.

We consider ourselves passionate, innovative, creative, practical, and down to earth. We take pride in our team successes, and we want our team to come up with new ways to deliver the best service to our clients. Our clients' businesses are our business, and we want our lawyers to be curious, analytical to challenge the norm and to look for solutions not just give advice.

Our Brisbane WRES team advises on all aspects of workplace relations including industrial relations, employment, occupational health and safety and anti-discrimination. This unique opportunity gives the right candidate the chance to grow their career by working across varied and interesting matters – from industrial strategy and disputes, project management and support, compliance and regulatory matters, restructuring, underpayments and litigation across most Courts and Tribunals.

At Clayton Utz, you will also discover that flexibility is an absolute priority for diversity and inclusion and that many of our team members utilise varied formal and informal flexible arrangements. Our lawyers are encouraged and supported to utilise these arrangements to best balance their life and career commitments.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, the following attributes will be required:

  • Proven experience working on a range of employment and industrial relations matters (work health and safety experience desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to draft clear, concise, correct and commercial advice and documents
  • A strong sense of purpose, ambition and a proactive approach to your work
  • Strong people skills; the ability to communicate and build a rapport with our clients
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate with impact to both internal contacts and external clients
  • A high degree of initiative, dedication and organisational ability with a strong client and commercial focus
  • A proactive attitude towards personal development to expand your skills and knowledge to meet client needs
  • In addition to this, we're looking for a driven, self-starter; someone who is able to work autonomously and is focused on attention to detail and providing an outstanding service to their clients.

We work with our clients across the full spectrum of the employment relationship; from recruitment through to management, and termination. What We Do

We are one of Australia's oldest and largest law firms, with offices in six cities, nearly 200 partners, and a full range of legal services for large private sector and government clients.

But we're more interested in talking about you, and with you.

It's why, wherever you are, we give you advice that connects with you. Advice that isn't just a one-size-fits-all solution taken off a shelf, but that reflects who you are, and what you need. Advice created by lawyers with different experiences and different views, but united by an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, confidence in each other, and pride in helping you achieve.

As you might have noticed, we like speaking plainly. While we like thinking creatively to help you, we won't give you an answer hidden by legal jargon, or that doesn't reflect our honest opinion. Our clients value that, and trust us with their most important work. And we work hard to deserve that trust
