Job Description
The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of critical infrastructure systems and programs. This role provides guidance and strategy on new and existing technologies including high availability solutions, automation, and new applications and platforms to help the IT Engineering team support STCU’s technical services delivery to our members. In addition, this position provides third-tier escalation support to the IT (and other) teams, disaster recovery operations including testing and planning, and designing\supporting systems to meet uptime, performance, reliability, and efficiency standards.
Core Job Requirements/Outcomes:
- Ensure a stable IT environment by following established procedures, creating documentation to ensure current best practices within the organization can be followed, and by coordinating maintenance with other teams and the users when applicable.
- Build a secure IT environment by maintaining an awareness of the security implications of changes you are asked to make within the environment and making recommendations to enhance the overall security posture of the organization.
- Monitor systems and applications for new vulnerabilities and patching, as needed, in a timely and expedient manner. Perform hardware and software upgrades in order to ensure all systems are supported and operate at peak performance.
- Successfully deploy new enterprise applications and systems on premises and in the cloud by adhering to current IT standards, developing system and flow diagrams, and ensuring disaster recovery processes have been established for each new application.
Other Essential Functions:
- Ensure that employees have the connectivity and systems required to serve our membership.
- Automate tasks and processes for efficiency using automation software, PowerShell and other methods.
- Ensure that alerting exists for all systems when they are not within documented specifications. (ex. Bandwidth overutilization or server disk space limits)
- Contribute to and support a positive work environment to ensure an effective, high preforming and cohesive team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or specialized training from an accredited vocational school or a minimum of ten years of experience in enterprise environments required.
Certifications: Directly related IT industry certifications required.
Job Experience: Minimum five years of experience working with and supporting hardware/software in an enterprise environment, mixed Windows/Linux server environments, implementing, troubleshooting and maintaining centralized storage environments and virtualization technologies. Experience with Azure IaaS and VMware virtualization platforms preferred.
Software Skills: Previous experience with Windows Server and Linux based applications. PowerShell or other scripting language experience required. Deep understanding of how network applications are designed and function. Demonstrated proficiency with information security technologies such as firewalls, SIEM tools, etc. Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 25 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. This role is part of an on-call rotation with a one hour or less response time required.
