Role overview


As an IT Support Engineer at Advanced Navigation, you will be a key player in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our complex IT infrastructure. You will provide technical support for Linux-based systems, open-source infrastructure, hosted applications, SaaS platforms, and intricate network architectures. This role also encompasses advanced end-user support, making it an ideal opportunity for experienced and technically proficient individuals seeking to contribute to a dynamic and innovative environment. Role Responsibilities

  • Advanced Linux & Infrastructure Support:
  • Provide support for Linux (Ubuntu and other distributions) server and desktop environments.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain open-source infrastructure components (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible).
  • Manage and maintain high-availability hosted applications and SaaS platforms, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Diagnose and resolve intricate network issues, including advanced TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing protocols.
  • Provide support for complex network architectures.

  • Project & Operations Support:

  • Provide technical support for project deployments and new systems and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support within project teams.

  • Advanced End-User Support & IT Service Management:

  • Provide escalated and expert-level IT support to a global team via email, telephone, face-to-face, chat, and remote assistance.
  • Optimize the IT service management system, ensuring timely resolution and proactive escalation of complex incidents within stringent SLA timeframes.
  • Design and implement efficient IT hardware, software, and user account provisioning for new starters, including advanced remote setups.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex end-user hardware and software issues across diverse Windows and Linux platforms.
  • Manage and optimize IT asset lifecycles, including asset registers, storage, and advanced repairs.

  • Security & Compliance:

  • Support cybersecurity best practices.
  • Assist in the implementation of IT security policies and documentation.
  • Understanding of security frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, or ASD Essential 8.

  • Documentation & Knowledge Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive IT documentation.
  • Establish and maintain a robust knowledge base, contributing advanced articles and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant IT support experience, with a strong focus on Linux and infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in administering Linux (Ubuntu and other distributions) server and desktop operating systems.
  • Experience in managing complex open-source technologies and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly security-conscious environments.
  • Industry Certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, Linux+, Network+, Security+, or similar are desirable.
  • Experience with server operating systems (Windows and Linux), virtualisation, security controls and policy, hybrid (cloud and on-site) hosting of internal and client facing services is essential.

  • Essential Skills:


  • Expertise in advanced Linux (Ubuntu) server and desktop administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in Command Line Interface (CLI) management (complex bash scripting, PowerShell, cmd).
  • Deep understanding of advanced network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, advanced routing).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Advanced Microsoft Active Directory and Google Workspace administration.
  • Expert proficiency in using ITIL-based service management ticketing systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills at an expert level.
  • Superior customer service and communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational abilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of security best practices for OS, network, systems, and applications.
  • Advanced experience installing and rectifying complex audio/video conferencing systems and collaboration tools.
