PPG IT Applications team is leading PPG and the coatings industry through an evolution in PPG’s business strategies and structure - to capture opportunities enabled by digital technologies and provide amazing customer experiences while unlocking new revenue streams and reaching new customers.
As part of the IT Applications team, the Solution Architect will build and lead the implementation of a modern Enterprise Ecommerce Architecture that effectively supports PPG’s digital transformation journey. S/he will focus on building our ecommerce architecture foundations with an emphasis on scaling to drive growth. S/he will work cross-functionally with teams of Product Managers, Data Engineers, Enterprise Architects, Digital Ops and Sales/Marketing teams.
Project: As part of our digital strategy, PPG is developing a global e-commerce solution for its products and services, providing an easy, rich, and unique user experience to our customers. This solution leverages the most recent cloud technologies and supports thousands of users in different business segments.
Job Duties: The Solution Architect will use his/her technical and functional capacities to build effective architecture standards, data models and a reference architecture that is robust, yet flexible and scalable.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Design and lead the implementation of a solution architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on enterprise and segment business strategy, business capabilities and business requirements.
- Lead and participate in architecture committee calls and help mature architectural practice across the IT organization
- Help mature Agile and Lean principles and practices
- Grow the maturity of Solution Architecture through the introduction of Evolutionary Architecture concepts and providing consulting support to technical leads, and software engineers within projects to ensure the project is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture.
- Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
- Define the principles, guidelines, standards and solution patterns to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture vision.
- Design, document, and communicate incremental and target state reference architectures.
Ideal Experience: PPG is looking for an individual who is passionate about software architecture and new emerging digital ecommerce technologies. Former experience as a solution architect, especially driving ecommerce in an industrial company is definitely a big plus.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Solution Architecture; related experience and/or education may be considered.
- 3+ years’ experience with CICD, Azure pipelines, Microservices, API first approach, Cloud native and headless ecommerce architecture
- Solid knowledge of Software Engineering and Architectural Principles and methods, including all architectural components and their interrelationships
- Experience with CommerceTools, REST APIs, and SOA preferable
- Knowledge and experience with API Management solutions, and other integration patterns e.g., EIP, ESB, etc.
- Experience with Azure Cloud preferred, specifically - Web Jobs, Azure Queue, Azure Web Apps, App Service Plans, Sql Azure, Azure Functions, Cosmos DB, Traffic Manager, Blob Storage, CDN, and Azure VMs, Azure AD/B2C
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts to simple business language. Must have a continuous improvement mind-set and develop self and others to improve performance.
