About the Role 

As a member of the IT Infrastructure Engineering team, you will be part of the broader IT Experience org (IT Operations + IT Engineering) and be responsible for managing our organization's infrastructure systems and networks to ensure they are functioning and meet Gusto’s needs.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Maintenance: Installing and configuring hardware, software, and networks
  • Working with one or more of these technologies (VMWare, Microsoft, Veeam, Nutanix and SRW)
  • Troubleshooting: Resolving issues with computer and server systems to minimize disruptions
  • Security: Ensuring the security and efficiency of IT infrastructure
  • Performance: Monitoring system performance and identifying system requirements for upgrades
  • Research and development: Keeping up with IT business needs and implementing emerging technologies
  • Data management: Creating backups and safeguarding data
  • Account management: Setting up accounts for new and existing employees
  • Manage ticket queues and escalation requests and resolve with guidance from the team
  • Other related responsibilities contributing to OKR projects
  • Participate in rotational on-call with the team
  • Documentation of operational processes and architecture

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls)
  • Proficiency in server operating systems (Windows, Linux)
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMWare, Horizon and hyperconverged infrastructure)
  • Proficiency with datacenter Microsoft technologies (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Azure AD)
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Understanding of backup and recovery strategies, as well as disaster recovery
  • Understanding of security best practices and principles
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Technology enthusiast who is always excited to learn about new apps, devices, and ways to do things better
  • Passion for automation and desire to make processes and workflows highly efficient
  • Outstanding people, communication and collaboration skills
  • Love to solve problems and get at the root of issues
  • Upbeat and positive, motivated by making someone else’s day smoother
  • Super detail oriented and highly organized. It bothers you when things are not lined up properly or documentation doesn’t exist
  • Incredibly reliable and follow through on what you promise
  • Proactively handle anticipated issues before they arise
  • 4-7 years of IT Infrastructure experience

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $113,000-126,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $136,000-153,000 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. 

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
