Role and Scope of Position:
Under general supervision, responsible for the design, planning, and operation of the corporate data network. This includes the configuration, installation, and management of all local area networks (LAN), wide area network (WAN) links, and related client services to meet enterprise business requirements. Skilled in network planning, engineering and architecture, designs and implements WAN & LAN network architectures, including LANs, network topologies, LAN internetworking, and connections with the WAN environment. Has responsibility for network performance and the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to the network and related equipment. Ensures a stable network performance environment for enterprise applications, multimedia communications, and other business applications with varying requirements. May participate in or facilitate various IT projects intended to continually improve and upgrade the network and telecommunications infrastructure.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains technical knowledge and understanding in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, including routers, hubs, switches, multiplexors, gateways, communications processors, network operating systems, network protocols, network monitoring platforms, network sniffers, IP Telephony, video conferencing system design and support, multimedia delivery and performance, etc...
- Assists with establishing, developing and documenting standards for network architecture and plan the total network integration. Evaluates existing networks systems and makes recommendations for resources required to maintain and/or expand service levels.
- Specifies, evaluates, orders, and coordinates the installation of network hardware and software.
- Responsible for recommending solutions to performance, tuning, and capacity issues.
- Monitors the network and arranges the necessary corrective actions to ensure high quality transmission capability.
- Coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment and troubleshoots problems with department users and department LAN/WAN administrators.
- Provides 2nd level technical support and consultation to operations, other technical services groups, and support centers.
- Troubleshoots network, server, and client-based communication related problems across multiple platforms.
- Assists with technical white papers and enterprise architecture plans for the enterprise data network environment.
- Defines corporate business requirements to vendors and evaluate vendor proposals and enterprise wide technical RFPs relating to network design and applications.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field.
- General knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Working knowledge of relevant system platforms.

Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and technical training.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience
- Working experience with network monitoring and reporting software tools is highly desirable
Licenses & Certifications:
- None required but are a plus
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$86,570.00-$96,190.00
