About this Position
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining sound policies and procedures for all finance functions related to Investment Accounting, including reconciliation, analysis, and vendor and operational relationship management. This role will also provide financial reporting and analysis to Senior Management as well as helping identify and/or resolve issues related to the platform accounting and regulatory environment.
A critical ongoing deliverable of this role will be ensuring appropriate information flow, structure, policies, processes, and SOX documentation. This is key to ensuring sound controls and data integrity throughout the entire process, enable flexibility for future changes, and maximize efficiencies. Responsibilities also will include reviewing processing for recording retail and managed investments transactions and related functions.
A successful candidate will require a strong knowledge of consumer investment products, securities regulation, and accounting for investment product revenue and agency commissions. The ideal candidate will have experience managing in a security regulated environment and the ability to quickly understand the dynamics of our Sales Force. Creating and monitoring various metrics to ensure successful and always improving controls and analysis will be essential for long-term success.
The Accounting Manager will serve as a point of contact and subject matter expert related to their areas of responsibility. Will work closely with other departments and staff to ensure the teams deliverables are completed both accurately and timely.
Salary Range: $85K – $100K
Candidates must live in Metro Atlanta area to be considered
This is a hybrid position that currently requires working onsite in the Duluth, Georgia office 2 days and remotely 3 days each week.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Review workpapers such as cycle balancing and analysis, account analysis, reconciliations, invoicing, and journal entries related to agent accounts
- Analyze and reconcile commission cycles for reasonableness prior to release of payment
- Reconcile and confirm receipt of payments from various business partners for commissions and fees per agreement
- Review ledger reconciliations for accuracy. Ensures reconciling items are resolved, and report reconciling items per established balance sheet review policy to management
- Serves as the liaison for various internal and external users as well as internal and external audit teams
- Guides team in completion of daily, monthly, quarterly and annual processes. Should be a resource for the team concerning all aspects and processes completed by the team
- A forward thinker and motivator of change with ability to streamline processes to improve efficiency.
- Initiates communication with management as needed
- Ensures completion of month end, quarter end and year end tasks associated with financial close, making sure that both Operations and Financial Reporting are supported.
- Reviews calculation of accruals based on statistical, contractual and related data points for accuracy and reasonableness.
- Ability to research ledger activity to determine necessary month end adjustments.
- Provides direct management and leadership to the ISP team of staff accountants
- Conduct accounting research and ad hoc analysis, present results of findings and create/update documentation to reflect changes
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 5+ years progressive accounting experience, people management a plus
- Must be able to work independently and demonstrate excellent time management skills in a fast paced, constantly changing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- FINRA Series 6 or 7 required (or obtained within 6 months with learning agreement)
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare, edit, and deliver procedures and technical guidance
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA Preferred
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Workday Financials experience
- Blackline experience
- Progressive accounting and financial analysis experience in securities industry
- Securities regulatory experience a plus
