Job Description

Major accountabilities:

  • Mentoring/developing a team of 8-10 members to ensure our IP strategies deliver a first-to-market launch in key markets to optimize the return on investment for all our products, and increasing access for our patients
  • Collaborating with and educating senior management regarding key developments and strategic risks/opportunities, with a view to deepening enterprise understanding of IP
  • Leading and sponsoring the use of data solutions to provide information to our business partners, and focussing the team’s resources on issues of strategy and judgment that give Sandoz a strategic advantage
  • Constantly improving communication and transparency within and outside the function, with a focus on educating our stakeholders
  • Driving and role modelling a culture where their team shows ownership for delivering first to market IP strategies

Minimum Requirements:

  • Admission to practice as a lawyer in one or more jurisdictions is required and/or admission to practice as a patent attorney (e.g., at the European Patent Office).
  • Technical degree (B.Sc. or higher) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology is preferred.
  • Greater than 10 years’ experience as an IP professional is required, preferably with significant experience in a multi-national corporate environment litigating multi-jurisdictional disputes
  • Significant leadership experience is required, with a focus on driving personal development and cross-functional collaboration; with a proven ability to manage, team with, and motivate associates of widely varying backgrounds across a dispersed and matrixed organization being strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of IP strategy and/or litigation success in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven understanding of product launch and commercialization processes as well as market dynamics and key competitors in the pharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred.
