Quandela is a European start up that provides photonic quantum computers that are modular, scalable, energy-efficient and accessible both on the cloud and on premise.
Our team specialises in the development of both software and hardware solutions for a variety of quantum applications. We offer a wide range of services, from developing the most efficient and brightest single photons sources, to creating algorithms for quantum computers and providing cloud quantum computing solutions.
The applications team is in middle of a triangle defined by : use-cases for industries (customers), state-of-the art of quantum computing algorithms (Theory Team), and integration in a product/ solution (Dev Team with Perceval and the Quantum Toolbox).
The Mission of the Applications Team is developing trust in photonic quantum applications for real-world problems by designing and enhancing cutting edge algorithms.
Solving partial differential equations (DEs) efficiently is one the most challenging quests for science.
Nowadays, their numerical resolution is mainly based on Finite-Difference Methods, a class of techniques relying on domain discretization. Even if using a finer grid always leads to a more accurate solution, the obvious drawback is a bad scaling with the number of points.
DEs are ubiquitous in science since they can powerfully model several real-life phenomena and this is why they gained so much attention also in the context of quantum computing, becoming one of the most explored subjects in the past few years. Among the several phenomena modeled by DEs, one outstanding for its complexity and wide range of applications is combustion. Its simulations are highly challenging, due to their strong interdisciplinary nature which involves nonlinear physical and chemical phenomena.
The internship would focus on the development and improvement of variational quantum algorithms for differential equations and related techniques (handling of boundary conditions, initialization strategies etc.) with the final goal of solving a 1D Flame model using photonic quantum computing.
