The Role
As an intern, you'll develop numerical simulation techniques for cat qubits, focusing on variational methods and Python coding for efficient simulations.
Summary Generated by Built In

Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.

The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!

We are at the forefront of the quantum race, competing with tech giants such as Google or IBM, and we are growing fast after securing  €100 million of funding in 2025 to develop our unique technology.

Currently 100+ and counting, between physicists, PhD students, engineers and experienced business professionals, we are united to reach our ambitious goal. Are you a quantum pioneer? Join us on a mission to reshape the future!

As an intern in our Simulation Model team, you will work on the development of efficient numerical simulation techniques for driven-dissipative bosonic systems, specifically focusing on cat qubits. The project aims to address the challenges associated with simulating many coupled cat qubits, where conventional methods struggle. You will leverage variational methods and tailored basis parametrizations to capture the relevant part of the quantum state effectively. This project is a great opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge quantum research at Alice&Bob while gaining hands-on experience in advanced numerical techniques.

What you will be doing

  • Familiarize yourself with cat qubits, variational methods, density matrix formalism, and basis parametrizations.
  • Develop an efficient variational parametrization to describe cat qubit dynamics.
  • Derive equations of motion for the evolution of the variational density matrix.
  • Develop Python code to implement the numerical method for efficient simulations.
  • Apply the developed methods to study important physical problems involving cat qubits.

Requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in a relevant degree at the Master's level and are looking for a 4 to 6-month internship.
  • You have completed coursework in quantum mechanics and numerical simulations.
  • You are experienced in Python programming and numerical modeling.
  • You ideally have experience in variational methods in quantum physics.
  • You are a curious, motivated, and proactive individual with a desire to contribute to cutting-edge research in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits

  • 1 day off per month
  • Meal Vouchers with Swile
  • 50% Navigo reimbursement

Recruitment process

  • Screening call with the Hiring Manager David (30 mins)
  • Technical assessment with different team members (60 mins)
  • Fit interview with Talent Acquisition (30 mins)
  • Leadership interview (30 mins)
  • Ref check
