The Retail Segment is a growing channel for Guardian. We allow consumers to shop, quote, enroll, and pay for non-medical health benefits directly from us online, through partnerships with brokers and aggregators, and through the government exchanges. Growth in this channel has been accelerated by healthcare reform, evolving consumer preferences, growth of retirees and gig/part-time workforce which has resulted in an influx of new individuals shopping and purchasing their benefits online and through government exchanges.
You Will:
In this role, the Retail Channel Operations Manager will be responsible for supporting the Partnerships and Exchange channels of Guardian’s Retail segment, including:
- Supporting the annual process for filing our Retail products across the 27+ government exchanges that we operate in, which is currently the largest channel for the Retail business
- Performing strategic analysis, recommendations, and execution of the exit / entry strategy for new exchanges
- Collaborating with teams across the Group Benefits business including pricing, filing, and network strategy to ensure there is alignment on the delivery and execution for the Retail segment
- Conducting competitive analysis on pricing, features, and impact of regulatory trends
- Providing operational support for the partnerships channel, which is the highest growth channel for Retail, including account management support, developing partnership scorecards, and analyzing partnerships performance to support recommendations on opportunities to drive partner activity
- Identifying and collaborating with cross functional partners on opportunities to drive other growth levers across both exchange and partnerships channels (e.g. sales, premium growth, and persistency)
- Strategic and analytical support for Exchange and Partnerships channels during “off-season”
- Monitor and project impacts on upcoming federal and state regulations
- New exchange enter/exist state analysis and competitive assessment
- Support Partner Management team during exchange off-season (partner reporting, sales analysis, new opportunity evaluation)
- Operational support for Exchange channel
- Annual refiling (i.e.: comp intel, service area review, rate review, policy review, application submissions, testing)
- Ensure Guardian is ready for annual open enrollment period
- Annual pricing recommendation and evaluation
- Collaboration across all internal stakeholders (i.e.: Legal, Compliance, State Filing, Customer Care, Payments management and operations) and with external vendors used for policy administrative functions
Reporting Relationships:
- This position reports to the Head of Retail Distribution, who in turn, reports to the Head of Group Benefits Strategy and Retail Segment.

- Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability produce clear supporting documents in PowerPoint, Excel etc.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with demonstrated success achieving results through others
- Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities
- Fosters a high level of teamwork and collaboration between internal and external stakeholders
- Results-oriented
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree required
- 5+ years experience; insurance, government, product, or operational experience preferred
- Past experience working with actuarial, filing, and compliance areas desired
Location & Work Arrangement:
- The work arrangement will be hybrid, and the successful candidate will be based in one of these three Guardian office locations two days per week:
- New York, NY
- Boston, MA
- Bethlehem, PA
Travel:
- Minimal travel required with this position (approximately once per quarter)
Salary Range$76,050.00 - $124,935.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
