BlueCat’s Customer Learning team is looking for a skilled and tech-savvy Instructional Designer with

experience in software product training development and lab-based experiences for global customers,

partners and employees.


Working closely with technical Subject Matter experts (SMEs), the Instructional Designer will

research and develop content scripts to support a tiered learning approach to product-focused

training topics. This is an opportunity to communicate a vision and plan for the complete training

program in a storyboard detailing on-screen text, visuals, animation, video assets, network diagrams,

lab recordings and other visual aids to be used in course development.


We are looking for a talented individual who has previous customer education experience (digital, ILT

or former instructor) with a solid track record in curriculum development, scriptwriting, instructional

design, and course evaluation. The Instructional Designer is knowledgeable in digital learning best

practices, adult learning, human-centred design principles, and understands networking concepts or

has technical experience with DDI.


The ideal individual will be an expert in their craft, capable of simplifying and clearly explaining

complex concepts to specific audiences, eager to work in a lab environment, and will possess a

curiosity and desire to dig into networking technologies and DDI.


Key Responsibilities:

· Create quality, in-depth and structured training content showcasing the features of the entire

BlueCat product suite, as well as technical networking subjects.

· Produce comprehensive storyboardsto enable the production of video elearning modules, lab

training content, and occasionally powerpoint decks for ILT programs.

· Work with internal subject matter experts to obtain an in-depth understanding of learning topics

to inform content development.

· Gather information from a variety of sources, including Product/Engineering, Customer Success

and Field Teams, as well as documentation and other internal channels.

· Research topics by testing in a lab environment and fact-checking in multiple sources.

· Organize topics into a structured, logical sequence delivered as a content map or course outline

using a tiered training approach.

· Align new projects with BlueCat’s Certification Program content development strategies and

training curriculum, and contribute to the success of the program.

· Demonstrate strong, clear and concise writing in scripts or narration that teach complex technical

concepts in a clear, confident, friendly tone.

· Produce networking diagrams and other rough illustrative models as reference material for the

Course developer to build as animations.

· Create video walkthroughs of product demonstrations or step-by-step instructions to be used in

elearning content development.

· Edit, standardize, or clarify material prepared by other Training Team members.

· Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and

methods of development.

· Develop exercises, assessment, and reinforcement activities within our Learning Management

System

· Participate in cross-training sessions to help further professional development across the BlueCat

Customer Learning Team.

What you bring:

· Proven working experience designing high-quality customer-facing instructional materials for

adult learners on technical software products, networking or technical IT-related concepts.

· Ability to communicate a vision and plan for the complete training program in a storyboard

detailing on-screen text, visuals, animation, video assets, network diagrams, lab recordings and other

visual aids to be used in course development


Qualifications:

· Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to simplify complex concepts into easily

understandable and digestible prose using clear, concise language.

·Solid track record in curriculum development, scriptwriting, instructional design, and course

evaluation.

· Experience working with course developers and delivering design directives to ensure successful

digital learning product outcomes.

· Highly motivated, with the drive to improve existing deliverables, initiate new actions in line with

business objectives, and deliver results often under tight deadlines

· Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts, make them easily understandable in text,

pictures, rough diagrams, or video, and bring information to life - knowing when to stay broad and

when to go deep..

·Curiosity, willingness to ask questions, and an eagerness to learn how networking technologies and

DDI work at a deeper level.

· Practical knowledge of instructional theory, digital learning best practices, adult learning principles,

and human-centred design principles

· Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, Linux, APIs, cloud, or programming, and the

desire, aptitude and curiousity to learn these technologies.

· Demonstrated ability to research and collaborate with subject matter experts and ask clarifying

questions

· Knowledge and experience with media design practices, formatting, layout design, e-learning authoring

platforms, and corporate branding.

·Knowledge and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite

·Strong project management, organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple priorities in

a fast-paced and global environment.

·Experience working with VMware or other lab-based training environments.
