Infection Preventionist I

In a direct patient facing environment, the Infection Preventionist professional implements, promotes and maintains an active infection prevention program through surveillance, investigative activities, consultation, education, policy development and research. 

A caregiver in this position works Days + Calls, from 8:00am - 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Conduct surveillance for hospital acquired infections; analyzes data. Generates reports, identifies trends. 

  • Provide recommendations for improvement. 

  • Investigate clusters of infections, outbreaks. 

  • Utilize knowledge of microbiology, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient care equipment. 

  • Develop and implement infection prevention policies and procedures. 

  • Conduct audits on infection prevention practices. 

  • Provide education and serves as a consultant to various levels of care providers. 

  • Coordinate infection prevention committee meetings and other related activities. 

  • Coordinate the annual infection prevention risk assessment, review, and evaluation of the organization's infection prevention plan. Reports communicable diseases as required by the Ohio Department of Health. 

  • Collaborate with health departments in complying with issues related to outbreaks and control of communicable diseases. 

  • Comply with mandates for state and federal public reporting of hospital acquired infections. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • Three years of recent relevant clinical experience including nursing, infection prevention, respiratory therapy, or medical technology. 

  • Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs). 

  • Certified in Infection Control - Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. 

  • CBIC is required after two years of hire date. 

  • CBIC Certification will offset one year of required experience.

  • Registered Nurse (RN).
