Our passion is designing and building powerful 3D printing tools. Our manufacturing team is responsible for research and development of the manufacturing processes for all of Formlabs products. They work cross functionally with mechanical design, electrical, and materials teams.

If you’re excited to help us troubleshoot processes, ramp manufacturing, and launch products, we want you as an Industrial Process Engineer.

The Job: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Process Monitoring and Optimization:
    • Analyze and monitor overall manufacturing processes, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
    • Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Equipment and Process Improvement:
    • Recommend and implement improvements or redesigns for equipment and processes to enhance safety, quality, production efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Apply industrial engineering principles to optimize workflow and resource utilization.
  • Process Simulation & Modeling: Use process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, MATLAB, or equivalent) for design validation and optimization.Capacity 
  • Analysis: Evaluate current production capacity and identify opportunities for debottlenecking and increased throughput.

Process Validation: Support validation of process changes to ensure consistent quality and performance across batches.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Effectively collaborate with R&D, production, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless process operations.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between different departments.
  • Equipment Installation and Modification:
    • Plan and coordinate equipment installations and modifications, working closely with the maintenance team.
    • Develop and evaluate cost-effective alternatives for new equipment and process changes.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by implementing lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other relevant methodologies.
    • Focus on optimizing uptime, capacity, yield, and cost performance.
  • Documentation and SOP Development:
    • Develop, review, and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other technical documentation.
    • Ensure accurate and up-to-date process documentation.
  • Process Scale-Up and Equipment Evaluation:
    • Lead the scale-up of new material production processes, considering all aspects of manufacturing.
    • Evaluate and select appropriate equipment and technologies for new processes.
  • System Optimization:
    • Analyze and optimize material flow, inventory management, and overall production systems.
    • Optimize packaging and fulfillment processes.
  • Effective Communication:
    • Maintain clear and effective communication with all levels of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

You:

  • Must have a BS in Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering) with relevant industrial experience.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, process optimization, and system analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Bonus Points:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a chemical processing or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD programs.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safe practices related to industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with process simulation software, data analysis tools, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with automation, packaging lines, and plant engineering duties.
  • Experience with ERP or MES systems.
  • Experience with powder and resin handling.
