Responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and automation equipment, coordinating with various employees and contractors, and providing detailed reporting of activities to management. Provides design guidance to facility engineers and project management of capitalized projects. Maintaining timelines and budgets. This manager is responsible for developing I/E Techs, Leads, and Supervisors, including technical development, managerial, and interpersonal skills. The position will collaborate with his counterparts in measurement, SCADA, control room operations, and electrical engineering to produce timely and relative results. The manager will develop a culture of safety by leading in his team in advancing a safety program especially suited for the I/E staff. The Manager will report to the VP of Technical Field Services.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The following represents most of the position's duties but is not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental, and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.

As an I&E Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Administering preventive maintenance practices to ensure high runtimes on all measurement, electrical, and instrumentation equipment are completed in accordance with schedules.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for sustainable I&E reliability.
  • Providing leadership for I&E technical support for maintenance and operations personnel (Lead(s) and participate(s)) in root cause failure analyses.
  • Maintaining proper documentation and timely execution of purchase orders, invoice approvals, email responses, meeting invites, and employee performance reviews.
  • Analyzing problems quickly and accurately to implement effective courses of corrective action.
  • Preparing scope documents, exhibits, budgets, specifications, schedules, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Preparing operational and project budgets.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of all maintenance of temperature and pressure measurement equipment, programmable logic controllers (PLC), secondary electrical and mechanical systems, and equipment such as motors, pumps, switches, pneumatic controls and end devices, and related input and output devices.
  • Developing programs to lower the cost of maintenance and improve runtime.
  • Guiding staff in the development of PLC programming, P&IDs controls, loop diagrams, and cause and effect documentation
  • Meeting and scheduling of activities with team members and contractors daily.
  • Coordinating operations with other Delaware Basin personnel as required.
  • Coordinate projects with electrical engineers and field staff.
  • Train supervisors in management skills, decision-making, safety, and environment.
  • Attending and orchestrating safety meetings and holding safety stand-downs.
  • Assisting in designing, engineering, and procuring electrical equipment and instrumentation systems.
  • Maintaining effective communications, providing ideas, raising concerns, and working with other functions, including facility operations and supervision, engineering, supply chain, other I&E employees, clerical staff, and contractors.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record is required.
  • Must have 10 years of experience/training on applicable control systems equipment or a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with 5 years of experience.
  • Must have 7 + years of supervision experience.
  • A Master Electrician status is a plus.
  • Competent in basic PLC programming skills.
  • Competent in VFD troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of SCADA network architecture, SCADA protocols, various types of instrumentation, radio, WAN and LAN communications, PLC programming and PID loop tuning, VFDs, Motors, PD pumps, and H pumps is required.
  • Experience using Ignition SCADA or equivalent HMI software.
  • Familiar with local and national electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles and associated safety requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently or collaborate effectively within a team and cross-functionally.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Be able to develop and maintain operational and project budgets.
  • Mentor and plan for employee's progression.
  • Ability to direct others in troubleshoot break downs, control systems, diagnose faults, components, end devices and other electronic equipment and perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Must have strong experience in the use of computers and a basic knowledge of Word and with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Knowledge to provide facility design feedback and create solutions to complex problems using measurement, automation, and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to create documentation including BOM/Material acquisition, one-line drawings to assist in quoting process.
  • Be able to assist in the procurement process.
  • Be able to apply common-sense understanding to daily tasks/issues.
  • Have forthright communication with senior leadership; job progress, issues & resolutions, required manpower & equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to relate to other people and maintain good relationships with coworkers and peers. 
  • Must be able to respond appropriately to constructive criticism. 
  • Live in Pecos or Orla, TX, within a 30-mile radius from Pecos, TX, or a 60-mile radius from Orla, TX—preferably between Midland, TX, and Carlsbad, NM.
    • Company-paid housing will be provided during your working shift.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Operates in a field and office environment, depending on schedule and projects.
    • Due to the diversity of scheduled and non-scheduled remediation, environmental conditions vary significantly depending on the project.

    • May be subject to extreme environments such as heat, cold, etc.
    • The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to:
      • Standing, walking, or sitting for prolonged periods.
      • Walking on uneven and vegetated terrain; sampling activities such as hand auguring for soil sample collection.
      • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
      • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and must be able to carry a self-contained breathing apparatus if needed. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type:

  • This is a full-time position.
    • 5/2 5 days on, 2 days off)
    • 1/2 days on Fridays

  • Will office out of West Texas (Southern Delaware Basin)
    • Pecos, TX
  • Supporting I&E Operations in both West Texas Locations:
    • Pecos, TX (Southern Delaware Basin)
    • Orla, TX (Northern Delaware Basin)
