Job Description

The HSSE Specialist I is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, security, and environmental compliance. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring HSSE policies and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment. The HSSE Specialist I will work closely with operational teams to promote safety awareness and ensure adherence to regulatory and company standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support, implement, and maintain HSSE policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with local, national, and international regulations
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with HSSE regulations and standards
  • Monitor and report on HSSE performance metrics, including incident rates and compliance levels
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective and preventive action plans
  • Identify and assess potential hazards and risks associated with operations
  • Implement risk management strategies and control measures
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits for new projects, processes, and equipment.
  • Deliver HSSE training programs and workshops for employees
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness across the organization
  • Ensure that all personnel are aware of and adhere to HSSE policies and procedures
  • Maintain emergency response plans and procedures
  • Conduct emergency drills and simulations to test response readiness
  • Coordinate with emergency response teams and external agencies as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Act as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of HSSE activities, incidents, inspections, and training
  • Prepare and present HSSE reports and updates to management
  • Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in HSSE
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance HSSE performance and compliance

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 4+ years of experience in HSSE role
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, BCSP: (CSP, SMS, OHST, CHST)
  • Understanding and Implementation Strategies of IOGP International HSSE Standards and Life Saving Rules
  • Strong knowledge of HSSE regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, develop solutions, and drive continuous improvement

Additional qualifications

Successful completion of onboarding prerequisites:

  • Background screening, including a review of driving records.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Full clearance of a medical examination, which includes drug screening, physical assessment, and fitness for duty evaluation.
