The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist (HSE) reports to the Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Continuous Improvement Manager and is responsible to support the planning, implementation and execution of the ISO 9001,14001, and 45001 certified integrated management system. Working closely to support managers responsible for flight and aircraft maintenance operations, you will coordinate efforts to ensure our workplace is safe, healthy, and free of risks to the environment and our community. Your role will help keep our employees and contractors safe, while keeping our environment safe as well.
The role we are offering you:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and certifications, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local and federal regulations; and liaise with D&S Canada QEHS Manager and HSE CAE Global representatives, as required.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of the workplace to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate the accidents, incidents, and near mises to determine root causes and recommend preventative measures. Create the reports in the CAE E,H&S system.
- Develop and coordinate the HSE targets and objectives and monitor performance indicators to report monthly to on site management, D&S Canada QEHS Manager and Global HSE
- Review an annual HSE manual and train employees and managers on updated procedures.
- Oversee and participate in all Occupational Health and Safety Committee responsibilities.
- Facilitate in-house health and safety new employee orientations and other training/education sessions.
- Help us build a risk-aware, safety-focused culture that serves our employees and our community with excellence.
- Drive our environmental and sustainability efforts forward to meet our targets.
Our ideal candidate has:
Education
- Post-Secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a safety or training specialization or equivalent
- Holding/working towards a CRSP designation
- NCSO designation is not required but is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in an onsite health and safety role with demonstrated progressive increase in responsibility.
- Experience in the aviation, industrial or construction industry considered an asset.

- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and influence others.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Strong sense of professionalism.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, utilize judgment, and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Advanced computer skills with the ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office.
Mandatory
- Be able to obtain a Reliability security clearance from the Government of Canada
- Be eligible to work in Canada, either as a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or valid Work Permit.
- Successfully pass and maintain security evaluation per the requirements of the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and to CAE being able to obtain all necessary re-transfer authorization in compliance with US ITAR regulations.
