Job Description

Position Overview:
As the Head of UX at DNAnexus, you will spearhead the development of innovative, data-driven user experiences that cater to the evolving needs of the healthcare and bioinformatics industries. Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer (CPO), you will lead a team of skilled UX designers and researchers while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Go-to-Market (GTM), Engineering, Data Science, Professional Services, and Customer Success. Your mission will be to design and implement end-to-end user experiences that balance business objectives with user-centric solutions.

You will drive early-stage discovery, refine design principles, and deliver solutions that transform complex challenges into intuitive and elegant interfaces.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of UX designers and researchers, fostering professional growth and a culture of excellence.
  • Conduct team meetings, reviews, and individual coaching sessions to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Collaboration and Strategy

  • Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and other key teams to align UX initiatives with business KPIs and company objectives.
  • Translate company goals into a design vision that meets user needs and drives competitive differentiation.

User-Centered Design

  • Conduct user research to deeply understand target personas, pain points, and unmet needs.
  • Develop UX strategies and frameworks to guide the design and development processes.
  • Create and maintain a UX program, embedding best practices and driving consistency across all products and services.

Execution and Optimization

  • Deliver intuitive and elegant UX solutions to complex user problems, using tools like Figma and UX frameworks.
  • Establish and maintain design standards, including visual language, interaction patterns, and usability guidelines.
  • Implement usability testing programs and leverage data-driven insights to optimize user experiences.
  • Work closely with the product team to ensure high-quality design execution that meets UX objectives.

Performance and Innovation

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for UX, such as user delight, navigation efficiency, and design accuracy.
  • Continuously assess and improve UX performance through data and analytics.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance product usability, customer satisfaction, and overall market differentiation.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, UX, Behavioral Design Sciences, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in UX management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in designing UX for data platforms or complex software products targeting personas such as developers or data scientists.
  • Experience in the technology, healthcare, life sciences, or bioinformatics industries, with an understanding of regulatory and industry-specific challenges.

Preferred Tools and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Figma and experience developing UX frameworks.
  • Familiarity with automating UX standards for continuous development adherence.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional travel may be required (10-20%), depending on business needs.
