About your team
The Legal team’s mission is to contribute to good customer outcomes and the growth of Fidelity by providing effective, accurate and business orientated legal advice and company secretarial services - delivering pragmatic solutions in partnership with our internal clients and external stakeholders while protecting Fidelity’s interests. We partner with groups of professionals coming together to combine skills and deliver outcomes without regard to geography or organizational structure.
About your role
You will take the lead managing legal risk and providing advice to our Taiwan business. You will help the regional team in setting standards, developing the team’s technical, industry and soft skills and ensuring a collaborative and productive environment. You will work closely with your peers across the AP and global teams. You will advise on strategic decisions relating to Fidelity’s business in Taiwan working closely with senior members of the wholesale, direct and institutional channels, the product team, compliance and and risk teams. You will represent Fidelity in industry groups and the legal team in internal cross-functional initiatives. You will work closely with our external legal panel making smart and targeted use of internal and external resources. - Partner and build networks across businesses, levels of management, and geographies, gaining the confidence of clients.
- Leverage sharp and objective intellect to manage a complex portfolio of strategic and operational issues, with the ability to work through influence as well as authority, using a combination of knowledge, reasoning and relationships.
- View the legal function within the overall perspective of the Taiwan business, with a friendly and solution seeking approach to business challenges and present complex information in a way that is easily understood by others.
- Engage in strategic conversations with consideration for the global and enterprise-wide context of issues and decisions. Personally deliver accurate and commercial advice on matters within your expertise - be a player coach.
- Set direction with focus on customers, actively interacting with internal and external customers to understand their needs delivering clear goals and priorities.
- Demonstrate a commercial approach and sound legal judgement, analyse and assess situations, identify the inherent legal and other risks and ensure the protection of Fidelity and its clients.
- Prepare and present reports and relevant management information for internal boards, audit and risk committees and other governing bodies.
People Leader
- Retain, motivate and develop talent within the team to enable them to deliver on their responsibilities and create an environment in which people can do their best work.
- Be a development-focussed manager, ensuring that employees have development plans and holding them accountable for completion. Develop and implement training programs for your team and clients.
Collaborator
- Partner with legal peers to promote a consistent approach and application of standard procedures and practices across legal.
- Partner with general counsel group peers ensure consistent and integrated delivery across general counsel functions for Taiwan..
- Partner across the firm to ensure Fidelity takes an active role in responding to and implementing change in an increasingly complex and demanding regulatory environment.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the external legal panel, regulators, industry bodies and trade associations.
About you
- A qualified Taiwan and/or U.S. licensed attorney is preferred.
- Experience working in a reputable law firm or financial services provider.
- Knowledgeable in asset management related matters. General corporate/ banking & finance related experience is an advantage.
- Proficient in oral and written English and Mandarin.
- Appreciate cultural differences of working in a multinational firm.
- Understand business goals and determination to push through regulatory roadblocks to achieve the company’s overall success.
