Job Description Summary
Operates as a senior level functional specialist and/or leads a team of Operational Resilience professionals, shaping operating models, providing strategic insight, control and thought leadership across the Group with regards the discipline.
Will have significant and in depth knowledge of the subject area, shaping business decisions and ensuring all risks are addressed and mitigated by ensuring the group’s current and future resilience, to meet both customer needs and regulatory requirements, developing Operational Resilience strategy, framework and capability, scenario exercising, and accountability through appropriate governance, including business continuity management, incident assessment and response.

About this opportunity
As Head of Resilience, Response and Recovery you’ll be responsible for defining and delivering the Group’s Severe but Plausible Scenario Exercising, our Response and Recovery strategy, understanding the control environment that supports our Important Business Services, and ensuring the Group has robust response and recovery plans in place. These will enable us to deliver on our Grow, Focus and Change ambition, as well as our overall purpose.
We need a customer-centric, people-first leader with experience in creating customer treatment strategies for large organisations, protecting colleagues and delivering customer outcomes when operational disruption occurs, be it in-house or via a third (or nth party). You’ll have demonstrable experience in governance, up to and including Group Executive Committees, which enable Executives and the Board to have sufficient oversight to discharge their accountabilities.
Leading a team of experts, you’ll work together to influence at the most senior levels, across platforms and the business CIOs and senior accountable leaders. You’ll deliver both specific and agnostic testing, knitting together the various exercising capabilities available from local outage, through severe but plausible to catastrophic, and ensuring appropriate plans are in place, owned and tested by the relevant people.
In protecting our customers, firm and sector you'll be experienced in leading operational resilience industry engagements, which includes engaging with our regulators, representing the Group where needed to bring thought leadership, guiding and supporting industry thinking.

As part of the Operational Resilience Leadership Team, you'll be someone who wants to support our broader team objectives to get results. The key requirements for this role are to:
- Define, develop and lead the Group’s operational resilience testing strategy and engagement model.
- Lead the co-ordination of regulatory engagements and responses, including the preparation of materials regarding the Firm's testing, response and recovery capability.
- Lead the team to embed the Group Exercising Strategy into the Business, Platform Teams and Group Functions.
- Work in partnership with senior leaders across the Group to deliver our severe and plausible scenarios testing.
- Ensure the production of SMART scenario testing reports, enabling and tracking remediation through to closure.
- Have ownership of the relevant scenario testing inputs to the annual Self-Assessment.
- Lead and mentor a team of specialists, supporting their development to help the team achieve their potential

What you’ll need
- Specialist understanding of UK operational resilience regulation, with strong knowledge of international regulations.
- Strategy – with a proven track record of reviewing, designing, and delivering testing strategies, including severe but plausible scenarios across a large financial services organisation.
- Strong operational resilience expertise and experience in the financial services industry, with the ability to apply the latest thinking to new business problems or creative solutions to traditional issues.
- Strong leadership, partner management, and collaboration skills, capable of influencing and negotiating with senior executives. Excellent communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
- Proactive self-starter with ability to self-organise, plan and prioritise activities, understanding complex issues quickly and take action accordingly.
- Positive relationships with a broad network of operational resilience peers across the industry.
- A professional qualification in one of the operational resilience core proficiencies (such as CBCI) would be beneficial.
