The Head, Shariah Audit is responsible to lead the internal audit function in HLISB. The incumbent assists the Board and management in their roles in risk management, control, and governance, providing assurance regulators and stakeholders on the proper governance and effectiveness of the internal control system. This role has a direct reporting line to the CEO, HLISB and a dotted line to the BARMC, with functional matrix reporting the CIA, HLBB.
Functional (job responsibilities)
- To provide overall leadership for the internal audit function of Hong Leong Bank Islamic.
- Accountable for Internal Audit’s audit coverage and reporting on all facets of HLISB, including front office, operations and control functions. Applies knowledge of key regulations to influence audit scope.
- Ensure standards and standard operating procedures are adhered to for all audit assignments from planning, fieldwork, reporting and validation of issues. To comply with the standard of professional practice of Internal Auditing of IIA and BNM Guidelines on Internal Audit.
- Applies an in-depth understanding of the inter-relationships of business and support units throughout the bank and how they impact the overall control environment and the audit approach.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place to support assessment of franchise and reputation risk, including strong communication and decision-making processes. Recommends appropriate and pragmatic solutions to risk and control issues.
- To facilitate change management in the achievement of corporate/business objectives.
- To provide assurance to regulators and stakeholders on the proper governance and effectiveness of the internal control system.
- Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance.
- Ensure Internal Audit meets and exceeds the requirements and expectations of the Board and drive a focus on outcomes in audit work.
- Responsible for the integrity of all regulatory reporting and the Bank’s policies on the fair treatment of financial consumers.
Managerial (team/group responsibilities)
- To drive and coach the team to meet with departmental and divisional business drivers.
- Align and involve department in pursuing mid-range and long-range strategies.
- Ensure department meets the business objectives and service level goals by providing managerial oversight, and effective monitoring of department performance.
- Responsible retaining and hiring of talents for the team.
Organizational (organizational responsibilities) including Strategic Cost Management and Financial Goals
- BARMC in discharging its duties and responsibilities by independently reviewing the adequacy integrity of HLISB business.
- Review audit reports, working documents and recommendations, including discussions with Senior Management (where appropriate), before submission of final audit reports to BARMC and/or BNM.
- Supervise and direct investigations as directed by BOD, BARMC, management or BNM, fraud/irregularities and compliance and claims against the Bank.
Education/Qualification
- Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or any related field.
- Professional Certification such as CPSA or equivalent.
Experience/Requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ managerial experience preferably with Islamic Banking experience and Shariah knowledge included.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, leadership qualities, responsible, multi tasker, result oriented, team player.
