About the Role
We’re looking for a visionary, results-driven Head of Business Development to lead and build our business development function from the ground up. This is not a role for a traditional dealmaker—we want a strategic builder who thrives in zero-to-one environments and is energized by the opportunity to shape and scale a function within a high-growth, GenAI-driven company.
In this high-visibility, high-impact role, you’ll define and execute our go-to-market strategy for next-gen AI solutions, partnering closely with executive, product, and engineering leaders. You’ll be responsible for identifying and negotiating transformational partnerships, opening doors in the rapidly evolving technology and Generative AI landscape, and bringing back market insights that inform product development and fuel long-term growth.
You’ll also lay the foundation for scalable business development operations—owning the strategy, identifying high-potential markets, creating strategic materials and processes, and establishing repeatable systems to support future expansion. What You’ll Do
- Build and lead the Business Development function from the ground up—crafting the strategy, processes, and partnerships that drive scalable growth.
- Develop and execute a business development strategy focused on market penetration, high-impact use cases, and long-term value creation.
- Identify, evaluate, and pursue strategic partnership opportunities with GenAI companies, cloud providers, enterprise platforms, and complementary services.
- Drive the full partnership lifecycle—from market research and initial outreach through negotiation, execution, and post-deal integration and scaling.
- Lead complex deal negotiations and structure partnership and licensing agreements that deliver measurable value to the business.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Legal to ensure partnership alignment with product roadmap and go-to-market efforts.
- Serve as a voice of the customer, bringing insights from partners and prospects into the build process to influence product development and strategy.
- Stay ahead of AI and industry trends to shape forward-thinking partnership and go-to-market strategies.
- Develop strategic materials such as business cases, proposals, and partner enablement content to support deal-making and executive alignment.
What We’re Looking For
Background & Experience
- 7+ years of business development experience, preferably within early-stage or growth-stage tech startups where the business development function was nascent or being built from the ground up.
- Sole or founding BD contributor experience, demonstrating end-to-end ownership of business development strategy, execution, and operations.
- Proven track record in technology, data, and AI business development partnerships, particularly in SaaS, marketplace platforms, B2B services, or AI-enabled products.
- Experience in professional services or expert marketplace industries is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with Lean Startup and agile development methodologies, with the ability to move quickly, test ideas, and iterate based on feedback.
Strategic & Analytical Skills
- Strong understanding of Generative AI technologies and their practical applications within enterprise and professional services environments.
- Product-market fit exploration experience, with the ability to identify and prioritize products based on customer needs, market signals, and partnership potential.
- Strategic thinking and analytical ability to evaluate and prioritize partnership opportunities based on value, scalability, and alignment with company goals.
Execution & Operational Excellence
- Built business development processes from scratch, including CRM setup, pipeline tracking, sales materials, and partner onboarding workflows.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with experience structuring and closing complex deals that deliver measurable business value.
- Brings an existing network of prospects and has a demonstrated ability to initiate and maintain relationships with C-level and executive stakeholders.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Experienced in cross-functional collaboration, working closely with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Executive teams to align go-to-market efforts and partnership strategies.
- Comfortable managing cross-functional projects and stakeholders, including navigating internal priorities and timelines to support partnership success.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field required; MBA preferred.
