We're looking for people with creativity, boldness and a sense of purpose to take Diageo and our timeless, pioneering brands to the next level!Feel inspired?Then this may be the opportunity for you!Context/Scope:Business Insurance & Risk Financing (BIRF) is part of Diageo’s Treasury function and is responsible for running the Group’s global insurance arrangements, for supporting Diageo’s markets and global functions on insurance related issues, and for leading Diageo’s external insurance partners and suppliers.Diageo retains and internally funds a large proportion of its insurable risks, primarily through a 100% owned subsidiary (captive) based in Guernsey, as well as purchasing significant levels of catastrophe insurance cover from the external insurance market. The strategy of internally funding risk means that an important element of BIRF’s role is to work closely with Diageo’s risk management resources to ensure that the Group’s risks are adequately protected.BIRF owns the co-ordination of the group’s insurable claims activity, in particular: UK aND Republic of Ireland (ROI) Employers Liability and Motor claims inclusive of legacy Industrial Disease claims); Global Public and Product Liability claims; Global Travel claims, Global Property Damage/Business Interruption and; Global Marine Transit claims.The BIRF function is currently based in London and Budapest.The role has 2 core areas of responsibility:Lead the management of the group’s insurable claims arrangements. Support the Group Insurance Manager and Group Risk Financing Director in the management of the Group’s insurance programmes.Dimensions:Financial:The role does not have specific financial responsibilities for insurance programmes, but by way of context the Group’s external and internal annual premium spend is in the region of £40m. For historic claims: where there is no conventional insurance cover, responsible for collaborating closely with the appropriate business finance team to establish a budget for dealing with these claims. For claims post 2004, work with external legal and insurers to ensure that reserves are realistic and control/reduce claims costs year on year.Produce Management Information (MI) for the business to ensure that correct provision is made.Make sure that VAT only accounts are paid.Market Complexity:Diageo is the world’s largest premium drinks company with brands sold in over 180 countries. The role involves interaction with Diageo’s businesses globally and is not market specific. The incumbent will be encouraged to liaise with and support a wide range of the Group’s businesses and functions.On claims, the applicant must be able to co-ordinate negotiation and/ or settlement of the claims described above in the UK and ROI.The applicant must be confident handling and auditing PL/EL/Product Claims and giving instruction to adjusters, claims handlers and solicitors. Have some Property, Marine and Motor Claims experience.Be up to date on market developments and be able to anticipate and act accordingly re. Claims handling arrangements.Leadership Responsibilities:Leadership in this context will constitute influencing decision makers within the Group and giving direction to relevant internal and external partners on insurance and (in particular) claims related matters.The person filling this role will need:
- Good technical knowledge of insurance, preferably with 3+ years insurance market experience and Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) qualified (or part qualified) or local equivalent.
- A willingness to support the business on different insurance matters.
- Have good interpersonal skills and be confident in dealing with external advisers
- Be pro-active in dealings with Company Secretarial, HR, Records Retention and Insurance colleagues, particularly in connection with gathering information to respond to information requests.
- Be a self-starter, capable of working autonomously and using own initiative. Be able to undertake claims file administration.
- Have good influencing skills and be able to work with internal partners who may have local concerns and claims issues
- Be able to identify and improve incident reporting processes and be able to interpret statistical information.
- Think creatively and offer solutions drawn from previous experience.
- Enthuse energy into the claims role to effect change and drive down claims cost.
- Proactive interaction with other Treasury areas in London and Budapest.
Purpose of RoleThe role has two main focuses:
- Owning the management of the group’s insurable claims arrangements, working with key internal and external partners as vital
- Supporting the Group Insurance Manager and Group Risk Financing Director in the management of the Group’s insurance arrangements and delivering BIRF’s Performance Promise commitments.
Top 3-5 AccountabilitiesEngage with external advisers (solicitors, insurance brokers, loss adjusters) and internal partners to assist with investigation and processing of claims to establish the potential liability of Diageo. Issue instructions to external advisers so that claims are controlled and responded to appropriately. Meet regularly with external advisors to undertake claim file reviews and control litigation. Ensure that claims are handled in line with Diageo business philosophy and branding.Provide external suppliers with a clear brief and agree Key Performance Indicators (critical metrics). Monitor important metrics review KPIs and maintain business relationships. Provide meaningful MI regarding claims activities and financials.Support Group Insurance team in efficiently managing core processes and handling as hoc risk/insurance related business queries.Qualifications and Experience RequiredRelevant insurance industry experience and/or proven paralegal or other experience in dealing with claims described above, acquired either within an insurance company, claims management company or previous in-house claims management role.ACII (full or part completed), or equivalent.Flexibility is key to success in our business and many of our people work flexibly in many different ways, including part-time, compressed hours, flexible location.
