Opening new worlds for molecular discovery
The Role
As a GPCR Structural Biologist, you will design and execute experiments for small-molecule drug discovery, focusing on GPCR targets. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, leveraging computational tools to drive drug discovery programs forward. Responsibilities include leading structural biology efforts and utilizing advanced techniques in protein structure elucidation.
Summary Generated by Built In

Schrödinger is seeking a GPCR Structural Biologist to join us in our mission to discover and develop drugs that improve human health through the use of breakthrough computational methods.
Our drug discovery and early clinical development team includes a cross-functional group of scientists and drug developers with experience working on all common target classes and therapeutic areas. We're supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers, as well as a large-scale computational infrastructure to apply our proprietary physics-based drug design and optimization platform. Several programs we have worked on have achieved development candidates, including progression to clinical development and FDA approval. This is a lab-based position in the Greater Boston area at our facility in Framingham, MA, which is fully equipped with protein production, biophysical characterization, and structure determination capabilities including a Thermo Scientific Glacios 2 Cryo-TEM with a Falcon 4i Direct Electron Detector and Selectris Imaging Filter.
Who will love this job:

  • An expert gene-to-structure structural biologist who's eager to tackle challenging targets in drug discovery programs, with an emphasis on GPCRs
  • A cryo-EM enthusiast with a proven track record of pushing the boundaries of sample preparation, data collection, and image analysis for the structure determination of small membrane proteins
  • A team player who enjoys cross-functional collaboration
  • A passionate scientist who's excited about utilizing protein structural information to enable structure- and computation-driven drug discovery programs

What you will do:

  • Work in a state-of-the-art structural biology team of 20+ structural biologists, protein scientists, and biophysicists with fully integrated gene-to-structure capabilities
  • Lead structural biology efforts by designing and executing experiments to support small-molecule drug discovery programs from target enablement through hit identification and later stages of the pipeline, with a primary focus on GPCR and other integral membrane protein targets
  • Be an integral member of multidisciplinary drug discovery teams that leverage our computational platform to drive programs forward

What you should have:

  • PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related discipline with 0-5 years of post-PhD experience
  • Demonstrated success in prosecuting gene-to-structure campaigns for GPCR targets, including construct design, protein production, biochemical/biophysical characterization, and structure determination
  • Deep knowledge of high-resolution structure determination of biological samples by cryo-EM, from sample vitrification to data collection and image analysis
  • Experience with LCP crystallography and common biophysical techniques (e.g., SPR, MST, nanoDSF, mass photometry) preferred
