Overview

As Global Software Engineering Lead, you will assume an operational leadership role in scaling the organization’s technology ambitions while driving the development of current platforms. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and product and business pragmatism. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to push technology innovation across consulting solutions at varying stages of maturity. 

You will lead the engineering organizational design and servant leadership across multiple geographies. You’ll establish standardization of engineering processes and reusability across all dimensions of the technical stack across the firm for platform development. You will also establish the standards and requisite delivery expectations from vendor partners. 

For our platform applications, you will lead the technical aspects including architectural design, integrating external technologies, technical tradeoffs, and participate as a member within product innovation squads. You will apply an advanced, innovated technical lens including AI/ML and disruptive technologies towards how we build our platforms. You will evangelize and educate the broader firm on our technical advances.  

This role is a blend of software engineering leadership and business sensibility applied towards pushing our consulting business to the forefront of technical solutioning. You will propel technical solutions to enterprise maturity to advance our client solutions. You'll collaborate closely with product, technical, and consulting teams to continuously advance and enhance AlixPartners’ innovation edge.

What you’ll do

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and insights to engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle. Design the org to support product development and client delivery of platforms. Collaborate with product management, design, architects, engineers, and developers to design new features and capabilities, provide estimates for development, and oversee implementation of features that meet product goals and quality standards.
    • Organizational design and leadership: design, establish, and lead technical organizational design aligned towards mission and strategy.

    • Provide technical expertise and business leadership in leveraging technology to delivering client results when it really matters.
    • Architect and develop breakthrough solutions to enable delivery of exceptional outcomes for our clients.

  • Establish standardization of engineering processes, software libraries, reusable components within the Product Innovation Model across the firm.

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve capability platforms including data platforms that underpin analytical and application use cases.

  • Establish the talent architecture alongside HR to ensure long term career development and growth for our software engineering talent.

  • Recommend, align, and decide on technical considerations and tradeoffs, including technology stack, AI/ML components, and build versus buy decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Foster collaboration and communication between engineering, design, and stakeholders across the firm from IT, client delivery, and corporate services. Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of product priorities and objectives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with latest technological advancements in engineering, AI and related fields, and emerging technologies. Drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the broader organization.

  • Evangelize and influence the broader organization on a technology innovation strategy.

What you’ll need 

  • 15+ years of experience leading engineering organizations of 10+ people.

  • 10+ years of experience managing engineering managers.

  • 10+ years of experience building enterprise software.

  • 5+ years of experience in client facing role in professional services.

  • 5+ years developing and shipping AI/ML production software.

  • Understanding of high-quality code and software engineering processes, and fosters an environment that creates them.

  • Effective servant leadership within high performing engineering organization at scale.

  • Ability to conduct gap analyses, build a development plan, sequence, prioritize individual tasks and then evangelize the finished product.

  • Strong computer science fundaments in data structures, algorithms, automated testing, object-oriented programming, performance complexity, and implications of computer architecture on software performance.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain and discuss technical concepts non-technical audiences.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving business outcomes and customer value.

  • Project management experience managing external engineering vendors.

  • Bachelor's or advanced Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.

Our Retail practice works with healthy, under-performing and distressed companies across a variety of urgent, high impact situations. Our Partners operate in a leadership role within the group, and the firm overall, leading large and complex client projects, developing junior talent, and impacting the business commercially.

You will be the primary contact for our clients, leading projects and client engagements on the ground, analyzing corporate performance, driving cost reductions, revenue growth and profitability improvement when it matters. This is a full time Partner position in the Americas. Relocation assistance is not available.

What you’ll need 

  • Minimum 18+ years of consulting experience or equivalent experience in the Retail industry.

  • 5+ years of Retail consulting experience in a professional services Firm environment preferred.

  • Recognized for deep skills and passion as a specialist in Retail, particularly around Fashion, Apparel, Footwear, General Merchandising, and FDMC.

  • A solid track record of building and developing new client relationships with public, private and private equity backed organizations which lead to successful client engagements.

  • Proven ability to identify opportunities to deepen client relationships and ways in which we can support clients based on one’s expertise, leadership, and outstanding results on engagements.

  • Track record leading business development and working in collaboration with C-Suite, funds, and financial institutions.

  • Proven track record in leading all aspects of engagements, such as restructurings, liquidations, receiverships and judicial managements.

  • Can run day-to-day operations of a project, navigate disruption, manage project commercials and staffing, and mitigate risks on the project, in coordination with Partner & MD.

  • High energy style, flexible and adaptive, with the ability to work well in a very fast-paced environment.

  • Understands and adapts to complex client environments and situations. Skilled at defining, communicating, motivating and inspiring change at executive levels and across the broader community of stakeholders. 

  • Views problems from the ‘big picture POV’, recognizing critical areas to drive into more detail. Quickly structures approaches to solve complex problems. Balanced and flexible, anticipates and changes direction as necessary.

  • Synthesizes information rapidly and applies good business discernment driving quickly to deep insights into possible impacts and solutions.

  • Articulate and persuasive communicator who commands the room, handles executive and difficult audiences well. Readily adapts style and message appropriately to audience and circumstance. Excellent at impromptu communication under pressure. 

  • Extraordinary customer service and interpersonal skills. Engenders client confidence and trust with executives at all levels. Builds counseling relationships with clients and peers.

  • Analytical, adept at quickly defining, aligning and scaling data modeling & management approach with the client needs. Ensures 80/20 approach to rapidly draw conclusions. Skilled and quickly identifying anomalies, inconsistencies, errors and conclusions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or foreign equivalent. Master’s degree and/or certification in related specialty area(s) preferred. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and in particular as unique projects/needs arise. 

  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday

The firm offers a comprehensive benefits program including health, vision, dental, disability, 401K, tuition reimbursement, identity theft protection, and mental wellness support. Employees will also receive a generous paid leave policy including vacation/personal time starting at 5.67 hours per pay period, sick time up to 80 hours annually, parental leave and twelve holidays.  

The salary range for this role takes into account a number of factors and is between $230,000/year - $410,000/year with potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
