Your new role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee the management of Externally Managed Funds across various asset classes, including Private Credit, Emerging Market Debt, Property, and Infrastructure Assets, as well as impact investments under our Premiums4Good program. This pivotal role involves selecting and monitoring external managers, driving portfolio design, delivering performance insights, and ensuring desired return outcomes within established risk and compliance frameworks. The ideal candidate will provide leadership to a team of portfolio management professionals and contribute to achieving our organization's investment goals.

In this critical position you will:

  • Lead the strategic thinking in terms of portfolio design and positioning for Externally Managed Funds and strategic holdings and add value more broadly to asset allocation discussions, forums and decision-making including considerations for climate transition. Promote awareness of and support QBE Ventures activities.  

  • Advise and be a member of relevant committees across   finance and the broader organization, representing the Group Investments perspective.

  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are designed, implemented and respected, such that Externally Managed Funds activity and exposures meet requirements

  • Present and input appropriately to Management, Group and Divisional Boards, and contribute to strength of the Leadership Team

  • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships across functional, organisational and geographical boundaries to achieve goals

  • Demonstrate mastery of Externally Managed Funds subject matter and markets such that material value is added to performance and risk management approaches via tactical positioning

  • Accountable for the external manager arrangements and deployments ensuring commercial/contractual negotiations maximises financial outcomes and protects QBE’s interests and requirements

  • Responsible for the leadership, management and motivation of all resources dedicated to Externally Managed Funds, fostering a culture of employee     engagement and building a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of business goals.

About you

This is an opportunity for a seasoned investment professional with extensive experience in the successful management of global, multi-currency asset portfolios.

Other key skills and experiences include:

  • Strong and broad business acumen in relation to Externally Managed Funds, instruments and vehicles, with ability to add value to investment portfolio’s through application of robust analytical approach and sound judgement.

  • Capability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with business stakeholders, global functions colleagues and external counterparties.

  • Accountable for the external manager arrangements and deployments ensuring commercial/contractual negotiations maximises financial outcomes and protects QBE’s interests and requirements

  • Responsible for the leadership, management and motivation of all resources dedicated to Externally Managed Funds, fostering a culture of employee engagement and building a strong culture of accountability and performance in order to ensure delivery of business goals.
