Department OverviewThe Global Procurement Organization provides the resources, processes, governance, systems and controls for acquiring goods and services efficiently, effectively and ethically from a diverse supply base that provides Motorola Solutions a competitive advantage on cost, quality, technology, service and delivery.
The Global Product Procurement Organization is responsible for the acquisition of all Hardware, Software and Supply Chain Services required for Motorola to design, build and distribute Video, Radio and Accessory products. The Global Procurement team is evolving from more traditional sourcing and procurement goals by looking beyond simple cost savings and creating value for the corporation by improving product profitability, increasing supplier collaboration and leveraging supplier roadmaps to bring new solutions to our business partners. We are a client focused team designed to bring value and help lead innovations, revenue and savings within the business.
Job Description

The Category Manager is responsible for the development, execution, and management of commodity strategies along with the associated strategic component team to support our EMS manufacturing and business operations. This position leads a cross-functional team to identify, qualify and manage a global supply base to provide the team’s assigned commodities.

  • Analyse data or insights to determine industry and consumer trends regarding the product and category

  • Create and execute commodity strategies that best leverage supplier capabilities to meet corporate objectives of quality, cost and delivery 

  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers that facilitate a deep understanding of their organizations and capabilities to support short term and long term business needs

  • Coordinate and support on-site supplier visits, assessments, audits, and continuous improvement opportunities to optimize total cost and address issues with supplier performance

  • Assess gaps in supplier performance and implement appropriate continuous improvement activities

  • Collaborate with Strategic Component Team and Design Engineering to source, select, and establish new suppliers, source new technologies, as well as resolve technical related issues and tasks

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve other relevant business objectives such as meeting annual inventory targets, liability exposure, drive down cost variances, supply continuity and delivery issues

  • Driving Event Driven Cost Reduction & Vertical Integration activities in concert with the suppliers, Supply Chain Ops and Engineering

Basic Requirements

  • Candidate must have at least minimum 5 years of direct experience in supplier management and strategic procurement .

  • Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, engineering, business, or related field (Engineering strongly preferred).

  • Technical knowledge in mechanical engineering is an advantage.

  • An understanding of the market and consumer insights and trends

  • Strong people management and persuasion skills to manage and influence at all levels of the company and also externally with supplier worldwide

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • High proficiency in MS Office / Google Documents; specifically, advance MS Excel / Google Sheets skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • An analytical mind with strategic ability

  • A good team player, a person with integrity, mature and self-motivated

  • Willing to work in Bayan Lepas, Penang
