Ernest is currently in search of a General Manager for our division located in Detroit, MI. We are looking for talented individuals with a proven ability to motivate, manage, and develop and grow our Portland operations and sales team. This is a full-time position that offers a competitive base salary, plus bonus, along with benefits and an WONDERFUL company culture.

The General Manager of our Portland division is an exciting leadership position reporting to our Regional Vice President as well as working closely with our executive team managing all activities related to the daily operations of our Detroit division through effective leadership, direction, and motivation of all employees. This role has full P&L responsibility.

  • Develop and maintain a yearly business plan that includes programs for improving the profitability of the company.
  • Maximize division profitability by implementing programs that optimize service and inventory management efficiency.
  • Remain up to date with market conditions, changes in products, changes in price levels, terms, discounts, allowances, promotions and changes with suppliers. Adapts strategy to changing conditions.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a close working relationship between the company and our suppliers.
  • Develop and implement cost saving measures.
  • Responsible for controlling inventory, reviewing monthly inventory levels and insuring the levels meet our company month supply levels.
  • Monitor the company inventory for turnover.
  • Review and negotiate freight costs.
  • Ensure that all delivery commitments are met with the most efficiency and lowest cost.
  • Review daily reports, assist sales managers with account and sales person analysis and direct the resolution of all operational issues.
  • Work with vendor representatives and our purchasing department to maintain relationships and competitive pricing.
  • Responsible for the timely disposition of all merchandise controls and return goods authorization with the sales force and vendors.
  • Work with sales management for the timely resolution and disposition of all problems with our customer in regards to product.
  • Follow and insure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to. Respond to management direction.
  • Commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
  • Support the marketing activity of the company, provide ideas, present concepts, be creative, provide information and a support structure for agreed upon plans.
  • Establish and maintain employee morale at a high level.
  • Overall responsibility for the training, growth, motivation and success of the inside staff. Including, interviewing, hiring, assigning and directing work, disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Cross train all employees to handle vacations, sick leave, and other vacancies.
  • Review the performance of the staff and determine merit pay raises for employees with the approval of the Regional Vice President.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and five or more years of experience in a GM or Director Level position required. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability along with the ability to get results through others.
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships across organizational boundaries, overcoming challenging cross-functional issues and the ability to lead/influence others.
  • Capable of organizing and managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to write procedures using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to top management.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of, spreadsheet software, order processing systems; project management software and database software.
