Location(s): In-person at one of the four Digital NEST Centers: Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, or Stockton. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Age requirements: Internship positions are reserved for young adults ages 18 - 24 years of age.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. Digital NEST has five centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, Gilroy, Modesto, and Stockton. 

 

JOB OVERVIEW:
bizzNEST is the creative agency of Digital NEST. bizzNEST is offering a paid, 1-year internship program that provides real world professional training. Through this program, interns hone and develop their technical and professional skills, gain real professional experience by working with clients, build professional level portfolios and resumes, and become competitively qualified for entry-level, career-focused employment.

 

bizzNEST is looking for a motivated Intern who can assist with our digital, print and social media marketing projects. The ideal candidate will have good communication skills, be eager to learn, enthusiastic about digital marketing, and capable of working collaboratively in a dynamic environment. The Intern will contribute to various marketing initiatives, including content creation, video marketing, graphic design, social media management, copywriting, and analytics. They will work on projects for both internal and external clients, collaborating with cross-functional teams as needed.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media Management (35%):

  • Assist with market research to identify content ideas and engagement strategies.
  • Assist in content calendars, brainstorming sessions, and campaign planning.
  • Assist in curating and scheduling content for various social media platforms. 
  • Stay updated on social media trends, hashtags, and platform updates.
  • Assist with community management: monitor and respond to engagement on social media channels.
  • Assist in tracking post performance and compile data for monthly reports.
  • Support in Identifying patterns in engagement and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure all posts align with the clients’ tone, voice, and visual identity.

 

Content Creation (35%):

  • Source relevant images, videos, and trending topics to enhance content.
  • Create visual, written, or video content for social media, websites, blogs, and other platforms.
  • Design graphics, edit photos, and produce short-form videos using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or CapCut.
  • Write captions, blog posts, or newsletter content that aligns with the brand’s tone and goals.
  • Work with the design & video production teams to align content with broader campaigns.
  • Support in brainstorming sessions, creative meetings, and content strategy discussions.

 

Other (30%):

  • Attend client meetings (with support of management).
  • Attend team & center hub meetings.
  • Attend marketing meetups.
  • Attend industry events.
  • Participate in the end of the year marketing showcase.
  • Support with internal website maintenance.
  • Support with email marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with staff members from other departments, as necessary.
  • Participate in applicable certification programs and courses. 
  • Log work and progress on project management (PM) software such as Asana and customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce, if necessary.
  • Manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.
  • Communicate regularly and across-teams through email, chat and in-person.
  • Engage in continuous learning and training opportunities related to Marketing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school graduate or currently majoring in the fields of Marketing, Graphic Design, Visual / Graphic Communications, Communication Design, Digital Art or related field. Self-taught individuals are welcome if they can demonstrate their knowledge and proficiency in digital marketing.

 

Technical Skills / Experience:

  • Some experience working with Canva and/or other content creation tools.
  • Some experience working with Instagram, TikTok & YouTube.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience creating persuasive & compelling written content
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience with video editing softwares is a plus.

  • Strong problem solving skills. Identifies problems, and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrates adaptability to new working environments, processes, tasks and systems.
  • Demonstrates leadership capacity and is eager to grow as a leader in their work and community.
  • Demonstrates creativity and curiosity to develop new approaches to communicating ideas to clients.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for the mission of Digital NEST and belief in upholding organization’s core values.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to issues of culture/ethnicity/race, gender, sexual identity, class/SES and immigration status. 
  • Ability to be an ally to people of color, women and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, questioning and intersex individuals and their allies (LGBTQIA).
  • Ability to meet the minimum amount of hours required. 
  • In-person participation at one of the Digital NEST sites.
  • Ability to  to perform essential job functions (such as extended time at a computer).
