About the role
The General Counsel will play a strategic role in shaping the legal and compliance framework to support AMPECO’s growth trajectory. They will be expected to oversee all legal and compliance matters, mitigate risks, and ensure the company’s legal interests are protected in its global operations. This role involves advising the leadership team on strategic initiatives, helping navigate complex international regulatory environments, and proactively identifying and addressing key legal risks.
The General Counsel will lead and manage a wide range of legal responsibilities, from corporate governance and commercial agreements to compliance and risk management. They will work closely with the executive team in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Strategic Legal Leadership: Advise the leadership team on legal and business matters impacting the AMPECO’s growth and operations;
- Client and Partner Agreements: Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with clients and partners, ensuring alignment with business objectives;
- Corporate Governance: Oversee governance matters, including board resolutions, shareholder agreements, and compliance audits across jurisdictions;
- Vendor and Supplier Agreements: Review and negotiate agreements with vendors and suppliers to meet operational goals;
- HR and Employment Law: Advise on employment matters, draft agreements, and ensure compliance with regulations across jurisdictions;
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks, including intellectual property, data privacy, and regulatory compliance;
- Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with laws and regulations in all operating jurisdictions;
- Dispute Resolution: Manage disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and alternative resolution processes;
- Policy Development & Training: Establish and maintain robust legal processes, develop policies to ensure compliance, and lead training initiatives to promote legal best practices across the organisation;
- Establish and/or improve associated operational processes and systems to enable the company’s growth: improve our contracting playbook and internal legal processes;
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with other departments to align on legal and strategic matters;
- Fundraising Support: Support fundraising and due diligence processes.
Your Profile
- Legal qualification with a valid license to practice Bulgarian law;
- 8+ years of experience in corporate, commercial, or employment law with significant in-house experience at a technology, software or a consulting firm;
- Expert-level understanding of Bulgarian legal frameworks and international contracting, including cross-border corporate structuring;
- Experience managing the legal function and outside counsel, with a proven ability to prioritise effectively;
- Deep familiarity with legal challenges in the software/SaaS or broader technology sector;
- Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property, data privacy, and international business law;
- A strong track record of drafting, negotiating, and managing complex contracts in areas such as SaaS, licensing, and partnerships;
- Fluency in Bulgarian and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
- An analytical mindset, excellent judgment, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving;
- Ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment while managing multiple competing priorities;
- Experience advising a global company, including working with international clients, partners, and regulators;
- Ability to partner with and influence C-level executives and provide thought leadership on strategic decisions;
- A proactive nature with the ability to anticipate risks, adapt to changes, and provide forward-thinking solutions.
