About the role:  

The Generative AI Platform Product Director will lead the strategic direction and alignment of Generative AI (GAI) capabilities, supporting the development of advanced GAI solutions across the Elsevier portfolio. This role involves collaborating closely with product, technology, and data science leaders to define and deliver a cohesive technology strategy that drives revenue growth and meets portfolio needs. The role is essential for establishing a sustainable GAI strategy for Elsevier. 

 

About the team 

This position is part of the Knowledge Discovery Platform team. You will lead cross-functional teams responsible for GAI enablers and work alongside other Platform Product teams overseeing Search, Recommenders, and Data Services. Knowledge Discovery Platform is used across Elsevier portfolio to help researchers and healthcare professionals make the most of our vast and trusted scientific content to advance science and create a better future. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Work with Product leaders as well as Technology and Data Science leaders to articulate the vision, strategy and shared roadmap for GAI platform 
  • Define objectives and key results (OKRs) to measure impact of the GAI platform through data-driven metrics 
  • Coordinate strategic planning across the portfolio, balancing short-term and long-term outcomes, establishing relevant feedback loops with internal clients to identify emerging needs and opportunities. 
  • Act as primary contact for Health Solutions team, supporting execution of their GAI initiatives and leading optimization projects as needed. 
  • Own execution of parts of the GAI Platform roadmap through line-managing and mentoring Platform Product Managers working with their dedicated squads. 
  • Coordinate progress across Technology squads also contributing towards execution of the shared GAI roadmap outside of Knowledge Discovery Platform. Facilitate reporting and governance at CTO level. 
  • Ensure wide awareness of GAI platform proposition, drive adoption and reuse by developing relevant training and onboarding material as well as a clear operating model. 
  • Champion the application of Responsible AI Principles in alignment with Elsevier’s guidelines and policies. 
  • Represent Elsevier at speaking engagements and conferences, promoting the company's vision and GAI capabilities. 
  • Stay up to date about emerging industry trends to guide product development and discovery 
  • Collaborate closely with peers across the matrix to ensure both internal and external customer needs are being met, contributing to further develop a culture where the customer is at the heart of what we do. 

Requirements 

  • Proven experience in leading product management for highly technical capabilities or platform products. 
  • Demonstrated success in driving strategic initiatives and creating roadmaps for complex projects of similar size, scope and complexity. 
  • Significant exposure to AI and specifically Generative AI technologies with the ability to work directly with technologists as well as businessleaders.Possessthe vision to drive our strategy. 
  • Strong ability to engage, influence, build relationships and trust with teams, customers, and stakeholders at all levels in a global-matrixed organization. 
  • Demonstrate experience of product innovation, discovery, development and delivery in an Agile environment. 
  • Expertise in methodologies for improving GAI quality, such as retrieval augmented generation, agentic frameworks, training, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering. 
  • Experience navigating changing GAI regulatory landscapes.
