The Functional Advisor will deliver top-notch editorial and staff officer services for DXCE. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of NGA's business processes and procedures. By providing expert document editing, thorough revisions, and efficient task management, the Functional Advisor will significantly enhance DXCE's overall productivity and effectiveness.
Impactful Duties:
- Review draft material and correct grammar, word usage, spelling, style, format, punctuation, logic, and organization errors.
- Ensure all edits adhere to prescribed grammar, style, and formatting guidelines.
- Provide guidance that helps authors generate material that is comprehensive and relevant.
- Review portion marks and classification banners on draft materials to ensure consistency and prevent inappropriate handling.
- Work on multiple projects with varying deadlines under fast-paced conditions.
- Process and disseminate materials in many hardcopy, softcopy, and web formats.
- Assist with the coordination process for drafting documents as necessary.
- Attend regularly scheduled editor and staff meetings.
- Demonstrate superb customer service by clearly and concisely communicating work status, problems, requirements, and concerns with team members, managers, and customers.
- Meet with customers and authors to exchange information, make decisions, or provide updates.
- Assist the office and division in achieving their mission by undertaking special assignments or ad hoc tasks.
- Assess the progress of ongoing projects regularly to ensure timely completion.
- Keep leadership informed of any issues impacting the work.
- Use the Microsoft Office Suite to create, review, maintain, and edit documents supporting the DXCE mission.
- Assist in developing and conducting training for agency personnel on business processes, editing, and systems. Training topics may include, among other things, N-CERTS task management, Front Office Staff Packages, and editorial requirements.
- Support DXCE members with Agency-level tasks and action items for the NGA Executive Committee (EXCOM) and associated offices.
- Prepare condolence letters and other correspondence for the EXCOM members.
- Collect, process, organize, and manage records in accordance with appropriate NGA Instructions or guidelines.
- Establish milestones and schedules with wide latitude for independent judgment regarding resolving staff and administrative management problems with the assistance of the government lead.
- Analyze data related to the DXCE mission. Collect measurements and metrics to improve mission focus. Provide suggestions to improve business processes.
- Assist in planning and implementing programs or projects with diverse objectives and issues that may require frequent coordination across multiple areas, disciplines, and organizations.
- Transfer data across various networks as the EXCOM, DXC, and DXCE need.
- Arrange meetings for DXCE, book conference rooms, ensure VTC connectivity, and provide necessary read-ahead materials to attendees.
- As required, organize and support various NGA, IC, and DoD joint meetings, forums, and events.
- Establish and maintain liaison partnerships with external NGA partners, e.g., other government agencies, industry, academia, etc., on behalf of DXCE.
- Represent DXCE equities at meetings, such as the suspense coordinator meetings, N-CERTS demos, or the internal tasking working group.
- Support DXCE with other duties assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
- An active TS/SCI security clearance and the ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
- Bachelor’s Degree within a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Information Assurance, Cyber Security, or Engineering).
- 11 to 14 years of experience in a specific functional or cross-functional business area. Experience may be broad-based, crossing multiple markets (i.e., government and industry), and may also include relevant certifications and knowledge of applicable tools, methodologies, or best practices.
- At least 2 years of experience analyzing and editing correspondence documents while effectively communicating actions and deliverables to senior leaders, including General or Flag officers, civilian SESs, or corporate equivalents.
- Must be able to reorganize and edit documents to improve their content, readability, and logical flow.
- Ability to identify and correct grammar, word usage, and punctuation errors, referring to a prescribed style guide such as Chicago, Associated Press, or in-house guidance.
- Refer to Merriam-Webster Dictionary or internal NGA references to ensure correct spelling, acronym establishment, and word usage.
- Must be organized and work with the team to meet internal NGA style, formatting guidelines, and requirements.
Desired Skills:
- At least 2 years of experience designing and delivering briefings and presenting complex information to diverse audiences, including senior leaders such as General/Flag officers, civilian SES, or their corporate equivalents.
